At the culmination of the movie him and the cops have the girl playing (while they keep watch) in a river and wait for the guy to come. It then switches to a shot of something hanging from a rear view mirror while you see the back of a man's hands on the wheel. After a long time of waiting they call it off and go home and then he's all angry saying he'll show up and such. It was a weird one.
Maybe The Pledge with Jack Nicholson. Do you remember him playing in the movie you described?

Man From Earth (2007)
A movie about a college professor who reveals to his colleagues that he's really a caveman who's been alive for 14,000 years or so. It's super low budget and somewhat amateurishly put together (especially the cheeseball score) but the script is so good that I'd definitely recommend this movie. It has a couple actors you might recognize, like Tony Todd (Candyman) or Richard Riehle (Office Space), who do a pretty good job, and a very well thought-out premise that really gets into the nitty-gritty of what it would be like to really be that old.

Yeah, I really liked it, especially when you consider it's only based on dialog (takes place in one room for the most part). Religious people might have a slight problem with some parts of it though.

Heh. Well the religious people would at least have that cunty blonde woman to relate to.

I totally agree about the dialogue. I kept thinking while I was watching it that it would probably make a really good play.

On FX? I watched it on TV too. They were having some kind of Adam Sandler marathon. The only really good ones he made were Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, while The Waterboy and Big Daddy are more like guilty pleasures for me...

The Waterboy!!! That movie still haunts my nightmares...although I kind of chuckled at the scene where the coach has a tattoo of Roy Orbison on his ass

If you're a sports fan then I think you are more inclined to like Waterboy...
