No Country For Old Men

and

There Will Be Blood

after watching these both i will say that while they were both great, i enjoyed NCFOM alot more. the cat and mouse game that they were pulling was exciting and frankly Javier Bardem genuinely terrified me at points. plus i thought that the lack of a big soundtrack made it alot more nail-biting and tense than alot of other thrillers out there. at a certain point i felt close to tears at the sheer brutality of it.

TWBB i really enjoyed too, and i will say right now that Daniel Day Lewis is one of my favorite actors. his role really made the movie the story of the main character's ever growing greed was intriguing

As far as inception, I'm so interested that I might watch a crap copy just to sate my curiosity, but it seems like the kind of movie I'll want to see more than once anyway, so I'll definitely wait for a DVDrip afterward patiently.

2nd run/beer theaters are amazing for this if there's one anywhere near you. It's usually how I see movies in theaters--like a third of the ticket price of a regular theater, usually less people and available booze, if you're into that sort of thing.

i usually take a pre-viewing toke, negating the need for beer almost entirely.

^Some rough and intense movie there. Very well made film.

The problem was, not being able to sympathise with any of the characters. Maybe a bit with Ricci's character. But, there's not a single thing that made me be on Theron's side, not even for a single second. I was praying for her to just kill herself and finishes off from the first five minutes, so I could maybe enjoy the film. I guess that's one of the goals the writer/director wanted to achieve at some point, however, that makes me wonder why I'm following this person's life for more than an hour and a half. Not having a single character I can familiarise with.

Still, hats off for Charlize Theron's and Christina Ricci's performances. Outstanding.

Epic. Not sure about the ending though, apart of me loves it because of how weird and out there it was, and then another part of me thinks WTF was that?!

But yeah, brilliant film. I agree with your assessment of the two films, even though there's no need to compare them whatsoever. But No Country > TWBB.

No Country is one of my favourite thrillers and Coen films, so that's no reflection on TWBB. Daniel Day-Lewis - well deserved his oscar.

2001 modernization of H.P. Lovecraft's chilling tale The Shadow Over Innsmouth. Why they decided to call it Dagon is beyond me (despite the fact that Dagon is kind of a central character in the story the movie is based on). Fans of the Capcom game Resident Evil 4 might notice some chilling parallels between the enemies in the game and the antagonists in the movie. I've also come to the realization that Spanish women are incredibly attractive and have made it my goal to capture one con her into marrying me.

Anyways I digress. The movie was quite adequate and features an interesting twist with the main protagonist being less likable than the woman he is trying to save. The attention to detail was quite well done and the hotel scene was shot to be very much like the novel. The movie had a decent amount of gore but the effects made it look more like a Saturday night movie on the sci-fi channel you watch when you're broke and stoned.

All in all it's one of the better Lovecraft adaptations that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys his writing, or just likes horror movies in general.

I dunno--there are a ton of them 'round here. I guess if you look at movie listings online you might find one near you (if there are any). Just look for a theater that's only showing 3-4 movies that are a few months old and you're probably on the trolley.

Annnnnnnnnd, on topic, the last movie I saw was a rewatch of this:

And it's still great.

I can't believe I just now saw this. It's got a Tarantino script and one of the most impressive supporting casts I have ever seen (even if the top-billings are a little weak). Partricia Arquette is HAWT and the story ain't bad. Plus, Detroit is the backdrop for the first half of the film...
