Just saw this for the first time. Blended some hilarious moments with some truly disturbing ones really well. Definitely one of my favorite Tim Burton movies (that I have seen). I would recommend it to anyone who likes their humor with a little twist |
^ That movie ****ed up my life. I saw it when I was 6 or 7 and I've had an intense fear of alien's ever since. I stopped eating Mars Bars after seeing it and now whenever I get scared I reflexively tuck my thumbs into the palms of my hands to keep them safe from being bitten off. :(

WWWP...you so crazy!
I loved Mars Attacks when I first saw it...gotta check that out again. |

It's weird, I've just been seeing a shitload of Tim Burton/Jack Nicholson movies. In the past month I think I've seen: The Shining (Nicholson) Batman (both) Edward Scissorhands (Burton) Chinatown (Nicholson) Mars Attacks (both) |

Excellent stop motion animation from down under. Great design and a bittersweet and funny story. I'd also recommend his previous, short film, Harvey Krumpet. http://1000filma.files.wordpress.com...-of-cairo2.jpg Interesting and as charming as most Woody Allen films but a little too chaotic. I don't respond well to high concept films. Loved the ending though, that took it up a notch. http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/5612/fiorile.jpg Interesting story based on Italian folklore but unfortunately a very bland experience. I'll blame it on the cardboard characters and the lack of a strong, magnetic character which elevated their previous two features, Night of the shooting stars and Kaos to some of my all time favorites. I'll give San Michele aveva un gallo a try before I stop ruining their rep with me. |

Two of my favourite gangster flicks from either side of the pond. Alright, the latter's ending you could've seen coming from a mile off, but good fun all the same. |
^Hartnett won my approval with that '30 Days of Night' film, one of the better selections from the recent 'vampire revival'.. oh look here's another one!

30 Days Of Night was awesome by the way, but another film that suffers from a lame ending by my reckoning. |

watched it the other night for my Writing for Design Class. a documentary about famed architect Frank Gehry, telling us about the processes he went through in designing many of his most famous and less know works (The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Walt Disney Museum, Maggie's house). you also see how Frank became an architect and several of his influences while in the field. here you see the man behind the design, someone who has both a grand ego and low self esteem, one who is both humble and larger than life. what also interested me is how Frank got longtime friend Sydney Pollack to make it, even though, as he said in the beginning of the movie "it's not just that i didn't know how to make documentaries; i didn't even know anything about architecture.", so i was intrigued on seeing just how he would approach this task. i wished that they went a little deeper into his life (where he grew up, a little more in his family life, etc) but overall it was a satisfying watch and got me much more intrigued in the rest of Frank Gehry's work. |

As a fan of Gehry's works and Pollack's of course, it's obviously a must. |

And I thought you guys were talking about 40 Days and 40 Nights  as I had never heard of 30 Days of Night before. Anyway I liked 40 Days and 40 Nights. A lot. Partly because Shannyn Sossamon is so dreamy. I just watched Jeux d'enfants, aka Love Me If You Dare. http://www.dvd-collector.com/affiche/jeux-d-enfants.jpg |

I'd definitely recommend 30 Days Of Night, as it's certainly one of the best modern horrors I've seen, even if I do think the ending is a bit naff. Just imagine the Dawn Of the Dead remake except with zombies that have superhuman strength and brains and you're there. 40 Days and 40 Nights on the other hand is pretty good, I'll agree with you there. Quite a pleasant surprise of a film as well, as I really wasn't expecting much when I saw it a few years back. |
Not seen this film for ages and then all of a sudden, there it was on proper tele.
Watching it with the kids. Brilliant film. |

Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny Absolutely hilarious, I laughed my ass off almost the entire time. This really changed my opinion of Jack Black, and Dave Grohl makes a pretty decent devil. |

So absurdly funny ! Seems the Tenacious Band is officially a band that's been going on tours, even before the movie was released. |

Rambo : first Blood (1982) Would you believe I'd only seen bits and pieces of this and not the full thing until a few days ago? I've been missing out, it's a great movie - kind of an action-filled suspense drama. Everyone knows the war vet character Rambo of course. In the first film, John Rambo is treated pretty badly by the police in a xenophobic hick town and escapes out into the wilderness. When the cops come after him, he puts up quite a fight. Semi spoiler alert : It was a good film but what really made it special was Rambo's monologue close to the end. Through much of the film, he seems a bit like an efficient killing machine .. but in the end he reveals all his weaknesses and we see that the machine has some broken parts and is ultimately just a man. That scene was even a little touching, brilliant acting by Sly - brilliant! Now on to part 2. |

The third is a bit of a cheesy action farce. It's quite entertaining if not exactly brilliant. Besides, the one man army takes on a whole damned soviet battalion or what you call it in Afghanistan and it has an interesting showdown between a tank and a helicopter. I'd say it's worth the watch if you're interested in Rambo and where the stories take him, but if not - then meh. The fourth I liked a lot. Again, Rambo's a very mysterious figure in that one and the character doesn't have a lot to say. It's not so much substance as it is a gore-fest. Most of the film is absolute carnage and instead of blood flying around, it looks more like ground meat splatter. Anyways, I'd say it's entertaining and a good action flick if not much else. |
Where the Wild Things Are and it was the worst film ever

Watched it last monday:
http://www.tafoukte.ma/a/up/images/8...Lola.Wants.jpg So it's a an American movie by Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch, featuring Egyptian and Lebanese renown actors. So the original language is English as Lola, the title character, is an American not so successful ballet dancer who was always fascinated by the Orient. So stuff happen, and long story short, she winds up in Egypt asking one of the greatest belly dancers there (Ismahan) to teach her how to belly dance. Ismahan on the other hand, has renounced dancing because of something, we don't know about, that happened in her past. So this movie's message in a nutshell, showing the sweet and sour lives of the Arabs (specifically Egyptians in this movie) as they love life but they still live in a very conservative society making life somehow forbidden. Anyway, I didn't like the movie. It was kind of cute, and it did show a genuine image of Egypt. However, all in all, the movie seems too artificial. The problem comes with all the different nationalities from the crew to the actors. It was like they wanted to put as much nationalities as possible, without any reason. Plus, in some places, it does seem like they are making a publicity or a propaganda movie to make us love Arabs and all middle Eastern countries. Like they have for goal to convince as many people as possible that Arabs are not terrorist. OK! we got it! ...But after the first 15-20 minutes, the awkwardness fades away and you just enjoy the movie. Tho it has an interesting soundtrack, with an interesting cover of Sarah Vaughn's "Whatever Lola Wants", with an Oriental feel, by Natacha Atlas. So here's the video to it, [very ugly video-editing, I don't know if a fan made it or if it's the official one] anyway ... |
Ghost town: it was a romcom and it was awful mostly, the funny parts did have me giggling for a while but there was only like 2 funny scenes. It was just overall lousy. Don't watch it, it isn't really worth it.

It wasn't as great as I was hoping, but better than I expected. It was original, but a little generic at the same time and I knew how it was going to end after the first 20 minutes. The whole one sister being upbeat and nice and the other one being edgy and cynical is a bit overdone, but that being said, it was cute and good for what it was. The little kid in it was adorable and there were some really funny moments. I'd give it 2 1/2 stars out of 5. |
