Great dark and languid film by Hungarian director Bela Tarr. Very highly recommended.

Oh man, I've been pumping myself up to see this but all reports seem to say that Tarr makes some long ass slow films...:|

Saw Batman.

It was great, Heath Ledger was perfect. At the ending it seems like they tried to much, coulda made 2 movies out of it.

Yeah it's slow but in the same kind of way Tarkovsky or Antonioni is slow, like every shot has to be held as long as possible to get its weight. So still good.

I'm back in Auckland and the film festival has been happening here. So far I've seen:

Cargo 200 (Gruz 200) - a deep and brutal film depicting the end of the Soviet Union. The characters are metaphors for different aspects of the USSR in that era. Some very harrowing scenes.

Rec - I saw this movie last night and it's the first horror which has genuinely scared me in years. It was shot in the Blair Witch style... it is filmed as a documentary from the point of view of a Spanish reporter and some of the actors weren't aware of what was going on which I think heightens the sense of realism. An excellent film... the director built up tension flawlessly and gave it a very claustrophobic setting. The crowd were on the edge of their seats... there was this one scene in which a character was exploring an attic through a trapdoor, and people in the crowd were shouting "No! What are you doing? Don't go up there!" The atmosphere was absolutely palpable.

i thought this movie was amazing...but at some points it tryed so hard to look realisatic that it ended up looking really cheesy, like in the scene where the helicopter is engulfed in flames on all sides yet it still shows the driver/passenger in the helicopter with no harm done

Also, two-face was a really awesome character in my opinion but before he became two-face in the movie he was so ****in' annoying!

Lastly, the casting was great and heath ledger was deffinatley the best joker yet by far

overall, great movie 9/10

most of my problems with the film was with two-face as well.

He just didn't need to be in it. Or at least as two face in this film. ;)

Watched a couple the other night

Cape Fear - really liked it but damn was it weird. The way it was filmed and everything. Scorsese is king. De Niro was really good as usual, and I was really impressed with Juliette Lewis.

Superbad - Really enjoyed it. One of the better comedies i've seen lately. I'm a big fan of Apatow and his crew. Also, anyone else think Michael Cera looks like a young Beck?

Fight Club. I watch that movie way too much.
