Before Sunrise is wonderful, but Before Sunset didn't really do a whole lot for me.

pretty good too. The concept is awesome, if the ending is just a little more fleshed out it could have been truly memorable.

The script may have been cliche and predictable but the acting and emotional scenes are what make this a fantastic movie. I love films that jump out of the box and try to be as ambitious as possible but some films are just so well made while being so unoriginal. This is one of them. It's also one of those movies that getting a great rating from myself isn't really on par with some essential cinema. It's just incredibly well done and a great watch. Nick Nolte almost made me cry and Tom Hardy is one intimidating bastard. Great film.

9/10

One of the greatest acting performances ever from Pacino and it's always a pleasure seeing John Cazale act. Sidney Lumet was a genius.

9/10

This one should be a treat for lovers of good old-fashioned sci-fi. It's got a very b-movie look and feel to it, but a very clever and polished narrative. Its first half reminds me a lot of Blade Runner, while the second half kind of diverges from this. I'll have to watch it again because it's a lot to take in, but I can feel good recommending it. 8/10

Looking forward to seeing this and bonus points as Emily Blunt is in it :)

From Paddy Considine (Dead Man's Shoes). Very good for a directorial debut but it's not exactly a barrel of laughs. The plot is hard to describe as the film is more about interaction and human emotion but that is not to say there isn't a plot. Suffice to say it's about broken people trying to reconnect with life. It's bleak but oddly rewarding and the performances from everyone are spectacular. If you are a dog lover this film may upset you but as the disclaimer states : no animals were harmed in the making of this film.

Powerful film. The scene involving "urine" was especially hard to watch.

Can't wait to see this one. Next day off I have's gonna be a day out to go watch this.

Erm, so, like, films I've seen lately and stuff...

Total Recall

I won't say I was dismally disapointed, but I did think this'd be ok. Turns out Colin Farrell gives a nothing performance, Kate Beckinsale was bloody annoying, the action (barring a zero-gravity gunfight that was way too short) was far from memorable, and Michael Ironside wasn't in it.

Yawn.

This, on the other hand, is my kinda sci-fi/action movie.

Looks beautiful, superbly acted, interesting characters, great mystery concept that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout and a real sense of both physical and psychological menace to keep the plot interesting.

Good film. Thought the pacing was off and the actors besides the main two were sub-par. Other than that, Jake Gyllenhal and Michael Pena were great, the action was intense, and the story was fresh. Solid B.

That's a great movie, but far from Miyazaki's best. His best is definitely Priencess Mononoke, which is pretty much the best animated movie I have ever seen. A truly dark look at good and evil, human nature, love, war, environmentalism... it's just brilliant, it really is.

EDIT- Oh damn, forgot Grave of the Fireflies. Although what I said above is totally true, Grave is much better, if only because it's an autobiography of the maker of the film and his childhood in WWII. And he was so depressed about it he had himself die in the movie. Pretty much the most perfect piece of animation there is.
