Shoot Em Up with Clive Owen, which makes American Pie seem like Bringing Up Baby.

I know it is supposed to be ridiculous, which is in its favour, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. Killing someone with a carrot is a bit odd, but I think he does it twice, which is overkill (like the sliding). One of the things I found irritating, is that Owen is British, but because the film is American, he speaks with Americanisms (daipers), which just doesn't make sense. If you want an American, cast one. Another thing I didn't like is the torture scenes, which are endemic in Hollyood films these days.

Is in not possible that he has been living in the US for a while and now calls them diapers instead of poopy bags or whatever you guys call em?

An anthem for my generation. An in depth portrait of a modern day habitual marijuana smoker, but doesn't rely on stereotypes or cliches. This isn't just another stupid "stoner" comedy; there's some actual substance to be had in this if your really willing to explore the subtle nuances. |

The story was a little derivative but the action was staged with aplomb, all close angles and one take shooting which is unusual in action films. A decent Friday night beer movie. http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...xvvY4_9n5wVo4g Much better than I thought it would be although the Hulk's presence in the film does ride against what is synonymous with the character IE uncontrollable rage coupled with blinkered anger that seemed to subside conveniently towards the films climax. Still a decent watch. http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...cwIxJp4Qo0LVbg A ridiculously scathing attack on 21st century media and stardom that managed to straddle the thin line of being both entertaining and cerebral and remain very low key at the same time. Very good performances from the leads and a quirky soundtrack added to what is a little gem. The music monologues are priceless and confirmed what I already thought about certain bands although I never saw Alice Cooper's music in that light. I have to rethink my opinion! |

I just got back from the theater. I'm disappointed. Before I explain why let me tell you what I liked and loved about the film.
Those reasons alone are enough to go see this movie. Please, go see it, but be aware... PT Anderson is ****ing insane. This film was very disjointed. It reminded me a lot of watching The Tree of Life. It was beautiful and well acted but I had no idea of what the hell was going on or that there was even a story being told. Anderson's previous films have had plot. They had a resolution and they had purpose. This one didn't Without spoiling anything there was a lot of scenes that just were completely unnecessary to the film. It was like Anderson was trying to push some envelope when he just didn't need too. He's PT Anderson. It was like he watched that scene in The Shining of the people in animal costumes blowing each other and said "I want to do THAT about eight times in my new film". I kept saying to myself "Why did that happen? Maybe they'll explain lat...oh **** the movie is over". Usually I like these kind of movies but it was just off for me. I think I need to see this movie again. I wanted to love it so bad but ended up just being fixated on the aesthetic aspects such as the camera work and acting. PT Anderson is so much more than that and I feel like I'm going to be itching for another film in the next year so that I get my fix. I'm not even going to rate this one. I just can't. It's a film that needs to be seen but also a film that could gave been just so amazing but ends up falling short. |
