I haven't seen this film in probably 20 years and the only major memories I had were some sick F/X and Barbara Crampton looking amazing in S & M gear and it didn't disappoint It's from the same team that made Reanimator and from a very short H.P Lovecraft story so if you are a fan of either get on it!

This may help

The short story was only about 7 pages if I remember but the essence of it is celebrated rather than exploited.

And with Jeffrey Combs in the lead role as well :-)

I like From Beyond! I wouldn't call it great, but definitely intriguing and fun. I'm a Lovecraft fan as well so I too tend to watch Lovecraft movie adaptations and enjoy most of them, even if they are a bit cheap sometimes.

So I waited a long time to finally sit down and watch the money making phenomenon that is this film. I shouldn’t have waited so long because that was an epic action film. I’m film geek. I appreciate the art of independent films and the culture of foreign films. I find most big budget movies to lack in mostly everything except the amount of money poured int it hoping it’ll return that sum with greater numbers regardless of whether or not it’s a good film. I do however have a small window where the big budget films made with heart and care can squeeze in and nestle themselves with the rest of the films I enjoy. The Avengers is right there. I thought it was great. Joss Whedon prides himself on great dialogue without going into Tarantino territory. The film was funny, had heart and morals, and did something that rarely happens with me…CARE ABOUT SUPERHEROES. I haven’t seen Thor. I had no interest in Captain America or The Green Lantern. I thought the first two Spiderman films were okay and the third an abomination. The non Raimi Spiderman looked okay but again, no interest. I saw the first two Iron Man movies and only liked the first one. Basically what I’m trying to say is that I don’t care much for anything super hero related that isn’t Batman. I love Batman. The Avengers will never reach the spot where Burton and Nolan’s Batman films have rested but it has found a spot to call it own. That being said I think that Whedon made a film that is meant to be seen by everybody hence how it made so much money. Tom Hiddleston was great as Loki and the whole Avenger cast was perfect even though Scarlett Johannson can’t act for **** anymore. I loved the middle hour full of dialogue and plot development. I was giddy during the final act where all hell broke loose. I enjoyed the film guys. I enjoyed the **** out of a Marvel super hero movie. That’s a marvel in itself.

4.5/5

Shotgun Stories (2007)
Holy fucking shit is this a good movie. It just goes to show what can be be done with a really low budget in the hands of a brilliant writer/director and a talented cast. The movie follows a feud between two sets of rural Arkansas half-brothers with a tone similar to Winter's Bone. I was completely caught up in the grips of the story while watching it and after the fact I was amazed that movie could be so hard-edged and disturbing without ever explicitly showing a single act of violence. Highly recommended.

I saw This Is The End about a week ago, I thought it was pretty great although not what I was initially expecting, but it was still consistently funny throughout.

I finally got around to finish watching Brazil and it lived up to all the hype that it gets.

It oddly enough reminded me of Neverending story and a few other films

That it reminds you of The Neverending Story worries me slightly. With Brazil, I recommend one takes care to get the Director's Cut version which has a runtime of 142 minutes. I suspect that you've seen the american version which is ten minutes less and, I think, vastly inferior.

The reason I suspect that is because the american version contains footage of clouds at the start and end (I think it was), some of which is actually extraneous footage from The Neverending Story.

You can check IMDB's alternate versions page for the movie -> Brazil (1985) - Alternate Versions - IMDb

With the movie fresh in memory, you should be able to determine which version it is you've seen. Either way, you know which one to see the next time you watch it

Watched this again with the roomie and still loved it. Definitely worth the "hype" that many are saying it's overrated for.
