Similar levels of influence and atmosphere.

Yes. It’s still maybe the scariest film ever made imo

Terrifying. Performances were great. Cinematography was perfect. The imagery of some moments had my jaw on the floor. The Exorcist/Rosemarys Baby it ain't, but over time it might merge into that legendary status.
@Frown: Devil's Candy is great don't be a hater.

Don't view it as a movie. View it as a show on Discovery Channel. The last five minutes of BWP gave me chicken skin like crazy.

Ever seen Mark of the Devil? Old and low funded, but damn, some of the most disturbing scenes I've ever witnessed. We're not talking quality movie making but the fact that all of it really happened at one point in history, just slams your brain.
This was the movie that when you bought a ticket to see it, they gave you a "barf bag". Wish I'd kept mine. Probably would have fetched a few dollars on Ebay. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_of_the_Devil

I don't think I would give it that title but I respect that. The movie has such a brutal realism that makes it extra terrifying. Probably top 5. Not too sure of my number one, possibly The Shining since it really brings you into the descent into madness in ways that are hard to notice. Maybe Inland Empire. I don't think that one gets enough credit for how scary it is on a sensory level alone. The Nightmare is another one, but only because it made me realize that I'd experienced sleep paralysis several times before.
Its suspense and reliance on the viewer for the horror was well executed. Some good atmosphere and soundtrack, but the acting took me out of it and the plot seemed pretty half baked.
