The Coen Bros are in a bit of a rut I think. The last movie they released that I really admired was True Grit in 2010.
They were extremely consistent until that point in my opinion. Their release frequency has taken a hit since that point as well. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001054/#director

Haven't finished The Ballad of Buster Scruggs yet, but I agree. I'm not sure how much of a role they have in the new Fargo series, but at least that's been solid.

That sh*t was an intimate soul sucking dive into a depressed mind who had minimal happiness in his life but still managed to pump out beautiful music while getting dumped on left and right by ex girlfriends, heroin addicts, and pants sh*tting relatives. It never came off phony either like something Ben Stiller would star in as the "Woe is me" jewish guy who can't catch a break. Sh*t was earned. It wasn't as flashy as their other films but the story and the character development was fantastic, plus a great performance by Oscar Isaac. I don't know if you've seen it once or a few times but give that thing another chance.

I might. I thought his music was supposed to be ironically bad.

I haven't heard him, it was the Jared Leto character who made me think it was supposed to be funny.
