Well there is digital painting and airbrush. And when the photography appeared, it did influence a redefining of what a painting is, but it didn't devalue the artistic merit of realistic painting of past periods, just as now digital painting doesn't devalue traditional painting.

If color film can destroy artistic value of black & white, then, following your logic, digital painting can destroy a value of one Leonardo da Vinci. See how crazy this idea is. I can't make it any clearer. It's not apples and oranges. It's all art. Maybe you're viewing films through technology and science. Now that's apples and oranges. Because technology and science are evolving and are better in time, and art is evolving not to be better, but different.

My point is, artistic merit is not dependent on technological advances.

I like watching old movies for the stylistic differences. It's often easy to spot if a movie was made a while ago, and sometimes I'm in the mood for that. But usually it's just a really good movie.

That's just total ignorance. It's a completely different movement.
How 'bout you watch Easy Rider, The Trip, The graduate, Bonnie & Clyde or Midnight Cowboy?

You're still kidding yourself by comparing a painting on a piece of paper to a two-hour film...

I made an analogy to prove my point, to make it easier to see. They're both art forms, they both use a technology and in both cases their artistic value doesn't depend on it.
