That's exactly how I felt about it, style over substance. It's the same with Delicatessen and A very long engagement.

Agreed. A Very Long Engagementdidn't quite know whether it was happy treading Amelie like whimsy or be a serious drama.

It may be have been sold as yet another Football hooligan film but this is more of a period piece circa Liverpool 1979 with the fashion and music at the forefront. Great soundtrack and not full of your usual tracks you would expect from the time period. I didn't even realise that the first couple of Ultravox albums were at the commercial end of Post Punk and not the new wave pop of their most famous tune 'Vienna'.

Are you sure it's set as early as 79?
The fashions don't fit that period until 80/81 and some of the music pre-dates it too.

Awaydays Fashion • Awaydays The Movie, Out May 22 2009
Awaydays Official Soundtrack • Awaydays The Movie, Out May 22 2009

Going from the website and some of the music is later. There are anomalies for sure. Just going by the site. The book came out in '82 so the timeframe is a little off I have to say.

Ahhh, I haven't watched something with Jay and Silent Bob in it for so long! Brings back memories of my teenagehood...

There's some scouse (spits) PR going on in those links that stretches the truth a wee bit.
The big problem I've got is with the soundtrack. Some of it is well off whack.

They were the first with the football fashion (casual) look, along with the "flicker" hair styles, but it takes a Manc to make them look like the scruffy bastards they are.
