Fuck you! So much for being open-minded about stuff. Read some of the stuff on this site or this site and tell me that's not intellectually stimulating. Baseball is as much a part of American culture as film is. I guess I shouldn't expect a music forum to understand where I'm coming from.

the films of andrei tarkovsky or teshigahara or antonioni or various other 60s filmmakers are far more visually captivating than anything i've seen recently.
They look old because they're from the 1960s. I mean I don't know what you can't understand about that. Some are in black-and-white, the color is usually grainy looking, everything is just so before my time. I just watched Grindhouse: Death Proof the other night--which is going for that old-school look--and I enjoyed it. Maybe I would like older movies, but from what I've seen I haven't enjoyed them. I don't know what to say...

I know there is a punchline coming but:

I'd say I watch three or four games a week, while checking box scores and highlights several times daily. I have four fantasy baseball teams, contribute to a baseball forum, and read plenty of baseball blogs. I umpire on the side for a little money, and was at the Detroit Tigers game Wednesday night...

well this is just really shallow to be honest. any image-quality degradation in older films comes from the film stock itself getting weathered/dirty/torn and generally being mishandled or stored improperly. a well-restored or well-preserved film from the 1960s (which really isn't that old) is just as crisp and fresh looking as anything today, often moreso because it is certain to not be digital. and if you buy the film from a dvd company that takes pride in their restorations and dvd-transfers the image quality is never an issue. but of course you would have to have taken an interest in the film, procured a dvd, and put it in your player to discover this.
