Ya, but if Jimmy Page can get slagged for banging an already well established 14 year old groupie, and Ozzy gets crap for biting a dove's head off, and Alice Cooper is constantly reminded about the chicken incident, then Varg is ripe for still catching **** for hacking a human being to death.

Plus his music just isn't very good.

Doesn't affect any of their music.

Having sex with children is a far bigger cultural taboo even than murder, nobody really cares about the Ozzie thing, and I don't even know about Alice and the chicken. But Varg straight up whacked some dude. And then became a Nazi. And he was burning churches before that. Wicked. Literally.

Varg's a total dick for destroying those amazing works of old school architecture. Hey, I want to be edgy. Think I'll blow up St. Patrick's Cathedral.

kibbeh 08-21-2016 03:49 PM

varg is a white supremacist psycho. doesn't change the fact that burzum make great music tho.

grindy 08-21-2016 03:53 PM

One doesn't even have to be a BM fan to appreciate him.

Uh... nobody is disputing that he's a dick. But A.) we like his music anyway so who cares when you press Play? And B.) when you burn down a church and make it a trend I think you get to actually call yourself edgy, for whatever it's worth.

MicShazam 08-21-2016 03:59 PM

Don't take it too hard, Chula. No one ever agrees with me on Burzum. Seems even non-metal fans are ok with black metal as long as the frontman is a Nazi sympathizing, murderous vandal. As a Scandinavian, his comments on Anders Breivik's actions make me barf. What a waste of skin.

EDIT: Yeah, yeah I know - separate the man from his music. Can't do that. Gives me the creeps and I'm too much of an idealist to let it slide for the sake of the music.

MicShazam 08-21-2016 04:02 PM

Wait, wasn't this about the Shawshank Redemption?

kibbeh 08-21-2016 04:03 PM

varg makes me sick too, i can't even watch videos of him hes so ugly and just such a nasty person ew.

The Batlord 08-21-2016 04:04 PM

why is it that neo nazis and skinheads are always or at least mostly into metal????

If movies are to be believed, they're more into hardcore.

kibbeh 08-21-2016 04:09 PM

oh okay. idk. all the metalheads here are usually super openminded and liberal obviously but yeah idk how it is in other places. i did get that idea from movies :D

Because it promotes an image of toughness and masculinity, while being perceived as mostly white music.

And that's just black metal. Literally all the other genres have no association with Nazis.

Ok, that was cool for like the first 20 seconds or so. Then it just became ridiculously monotonous. Just an excuse for you BM fans to headbang, thrash, writhe around spasmodically, and mosh for 8 minutes straight. I've heard Jane Fonda aerobics music that's more interesting.

Ted Bundy liked to **** chicks in the ass with hairspray canisters. He makes Varg look like Goober Pyle when it comes to edgy. It's actually pretty easy to burn down a wooden structure in the middle of the night, out in the middle of nowhere, with a bunch of dudes helping out.

Monotonous isn't necessarily bad, if it manages to be atmospheric and hypnotic. And it certainly does.

Huh? Is that what the music made you do? Because I can listen to it normally.

While I agree that it can be a good thing to be monotonous, Burzum is the furthest thing from atmospheric and hypnotic.

Burzum never played live cause it was a one man project. So nobody was moshing to anything.

Not really, no. I find it more in line with something I'd listen to if I were pissed off. Agalloch fits the bill for being atmospheric far better than Burzum does.

I can see that. I think that the repetitiveness of it tends to make it hypnotic with how dense it can be.

Agalloch aren't bad at all. I've seen them described as post-rock/metal + folk with only a dash of black metal guitar technique. Guess that depends how you slice that pie.

That I can agree with. We probably have a different opinion of what atmospheric can be. However, I can understand that repetitiveness can create a sort of hypnotic state. pg.lost does it pretty well.

The album was recorded under purposefully bad conditions. No guitar amplifier was used; Vikernes plugged his guitar into the amplifier of his brother's stereo and used an old fuzz pedal.[4] For the vocals, he asked a sound technician for the worst microphone he had, and ended up using a headset
