The Shawshank Redemption

One of the greatest films ever.

appreciate.

Kevorkian Logic 01-26-2008 05:14 AM

I adore that movie, watch it everytime I go to my beachouse, so at least 3 times a year. Morgan Freeman is excellent in it.

jackhammer 01-26-2008 12:44 PM

I was one of those who loved it straight away when it came out. The more times I have seen it the harder it is to forgive it's many mistakes plot and continuity wise. still a damn great film and the 3 disc S.E DVD is a little beauty.

Seltzer 01-28-2008 03:20 AM

I like Shawshank Redemption - it's a decent movie. You might like Papillon too.

spark10036 01-28-2008 10:22 AM

I love this film, however I did watched it again last year after a while and I found the plot twist about Tommy's previous cell-mate being the murderer a little bit childish really...
anyway still a great film

Dude111 08-18-2016 10:25 AM

I LOVE this movie...... I copied it off a rental tape many years ago............

I cant decide which I like better though THIS or ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ

Well, it's set in Maine decades ago so you'd imagine the prison population and number of prisons could be small enough for that to have happened.

Love the movie. Seen it many, many times.

JGuy Grungeman 08-18-2016 11:52 AM

One of the very few "perfect" movies.

Chula Vista 08-18-2016 01:13 PM

Mark Rolston, who played Bogs - head of The Sisters, said that during breaks all the other actors wanted to talk about was what it was like to be in the Aliens movie. :D

And it was weird seeing David Proval, who played the unassuming Snooze, being so damn psychotic as Ritchie Aprile in The Sopranos. The sign of a versatile actor.

I watched it yesterday as a ****ty youtube upload. Nice to refresh my memory on it. The first 2/3's are very entertaining, but everything from when the new kid comes to prison drags a little bit. The ending is corny. It also goes to great lengths to show the inmates as these super cuddly-wuddly, colourful, loveable, quirky, huggable underdogs, while the prison guards are basically dehumanized and portrayed as monstrous. There's a few exceptions, but basically, I think the movie is quite lazy and dishonest about the fact that the main characters are supposed to be hardened criminals! Still, good movie, but no where near the best ever. According to me. Tim Robbins rules in the movie, though.

Frownland 08-20-2016 02:28 PM

I think it's a phenomenal example of good filmmaking and think that anyone interested in film should definitely see it, but I agree that it's nowhere near the greatest. It used to be my favourite though.

My favourite Tim Robbons movie is The Player.

The Batlord 08-20-2016 02:33 PM

Great Morgan Freeman porn.

Watching Mystic River right now. Another amazing Robbins performance but Penn steals the show. The extras that played the cops trying to hold him down during "that scene", said afterwards that it really took every once of strength they had to do it because Penn was seriously losing his mind in the moment.

It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but I thought they tried to drown robbins. Not penn.

Spoiler for Spoiler:
It's the scene where they find Penn's daughter's murdered body.

Damn! I cliked the spoiler. Now why did I do that? I haven't even seen the movie. Probably should.

Chula Vista 08-20-2016 07:17 PM

Forgot how ridiculously great this movie is. Next to Unforgiven, easily Eastwood's best. Penn won the Oscar for best actor and Robbins for best supporting actor. First movie to achieve that feat since Ben Hur in 1959.

Can't imagine any other actor nailing the intensity of Penn's performance in this. Runs the gamut of emotions and you empathize with him the entire way.

I don't remember this movie being good at all. Surprised it gets so much love.

Dude111 08-21-2016 09:26 AM

Well its sad how mean they are to people IN PRISON and its mean how they treated Andy like a criminal WITH NO EVIDENCE yes but it depicts REALITY PERFECTLY!! -- And it shows the universe on Andy's side letting him ultimatly escape as HE DIDNT DO ANYTHING!!!!! (No one would listen)

Its a very touching/moving film..........

89% Favorability rating over at Rotten Tomatoes.

Nominated for 6 Academy Awards. Penn and Robbins not only both won an Oscar but also a Golden Globe. Incredible acting by everyone involved.

Maybe you should give it another shot?

Key 08-21-2016 10:19 AM

Maybe.

Frownland 08-21-2016 10:23 AM

At least it's better than Forest Gump.

Could you rephrase that in English?

Don't like Forrest Gump = Must like Burzum

Forest Gump was the definition of cloying schmaltz, Burzum is white supremacist metal. I'll have neither cross my doorstep.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 08-21-2016 01:36 PM

I will not tolerate anymore slandering of the Burzum name on this forum.

It's ok. Not even remotely close to a masterpiece or deserved classic though.

Well no, of course not. But Tom Hanks does a fantastic job on his own. In fairness, I like him a lot as an actor. Cast Away is one of my top 10 movies.

Frownland 08-21-2016 02:08 PM

There's a big plot hole in Cast Away that ruins it for me: he would totally get fired for opening those packages.

Yeah, and what about the dead body? He could have cooked it and eaten it, but instead he buried it and paid his respects like a ****ing idiot.

Burzum's music is in no way political and what Varg does in his free time doesn't diminish its glorious awesomeness in any way.

I wouldn't like it anyway, so feeling morally superior is just a bonus effect.
