I think I don't like it because Music is VERY VERY personal to me so anybody elses views are kind of redundant and not equatable to mine, even though that is a narrow minded and blinkered view. Musical tastes are the nearest anyone will get to finding out what really makes me tick so I have a hard time watching films concerning this as it's an intensely personal thing.

i enjoyed the book, movie, and soundtrack very much. although i understand where you are coming from with the movie is a "bastardized" version of an originally london set movie, it actually was done very well. yes they deleted scenes (cant have a 5 hour movie) but it still came off in the exact way the book was written. this book WAS a romcom, so i dont see how that has any blame deserves to be tossed that way. as far as the costello thing, what did you want the soundtrack to just be only costello? although he probably has enough material to do such it would have taken away from the film. this was a great book and it was ported over about as good as a book can be.

How is this compatable with posting on a music forum? :p

But yeah, I can see where you're coming from. Movies about music really don't do much for me, especially bio films (Ray? Walk The Line? Ugh!). The only reason I sort of like High Fidelity is because it pokes fun at the music geek/elitist in all of us and doesn't really take itself too seriously. Anyway, I think we can all agree that the book was better (if not by much).

This was a great movie. I like the way the whole thing basically makes fun of insular know-nothing-know-it-all types who think they're so great & important in a particular subject area. It doesn't have to be music, it could also apply to stamp collecting, snowboarding, cars, or anything. Get over over yourselves already!

Louis: I don't have that record... I'll buy it for forty.
Rob: Sold.
Louis: Now why would you sell it to me and not to him?
Barry: Because you're not a geek, Louis.
Louis: You guys are snobs.
Richard: No, we're not.
Louis: Yeah, seriously, you're totally elitist. You feel like the unappreciated scholars, so you sh!t onto people who know lesser than you.
Rob, Barry, Richard: No!
Louis: Which is everybody...
Rob, Barry, Richard: Yeah...
Louis: That's so sad.

It's a pretty good movie, I wasn't blown away by it, but it was nice to watch. It seems to be the general opinion that the book is better so maybe I'll check that out.
