Default X-Files

So I might be the only geek on these here boards to have seen
every X-Files episode, but hopefully there are a few other fans out there.
It started out very episodic, with Mulder and Scully taking on a different
supernatural creature in each episode always offering a precarious
balance between science and mysticism, until that started getting
a little old and they decided to build up an immense and convoluted
alien mythology which is hard to wrap your head around even if you've
seen every episode. Besides the mindfuck conspiracy theory plot
which obviously appeals to geeks like me, there's also the awesome
character dynamics between Mulder and Scully which brings a lot
of subtle humor into the show, add to that one of the best casts
a tv show has ever seen, and you have an obvious classic.

The reason I bring it up is because a new X-Files movie has more or less
been announced, which sounds like a wet dream to those of us who
have been blue ballin it since the show's cliffhanger ending.

Unfortunately, apparently the plot isn't going to deal with the alien mythology.
Seeing as how the show ended with the world being on the verge of an alien
take-over, I'm not really sure how the hell they'll pull that off.
Also, the movie apparently deals with William, Scully's son who was basically
made out to be good ol' JC reincarnated, so Scully and Mulder might not even be in it.
Add to this the fact that the other X-Files movie was pretty miserable,
and I'm very skeptical despite my obsession with this show.

Well, that's all I've got to say. Any other X-Philes out there?
Holla.

I have the first 3 seasons on DVD and I found it got worse as the series went on. X-files were just that. Self contained episodes that were seeminly implausible given a plausibile answer. The whole building of the mythology which you posted about, annoyed the hell out of me and seemed an easy answer to a show that had run out of ideas. If they had STARTED with this mythology then I would have appreciated it a lot more. I still would like to see the new movie though!

to me it wasn't that they had run out of ideas,
but that they needed a bigger idea to keep it from getting stale
i personally think every episode is great until they
introduced john dogget and mulder "disappeared"

Which suggested to me, that they had run out of ideas early on. Some of the episodes really hit the mark stylistically and thematically, but others fell way short of my expectations. Squeeze from Season One remains one of my favourite episodes.

my favorite episode is probably the vampire one where
mulder and scully both tell the episode from their own perspective.
not sure what it's called.

when they first introduced doggett and later his partner I forget her name....I didn't like them....but after viewing the episodes they were in a couple years later.....I liked them as a new addition......I wanted to find out more about doggett's son....was that ever solved? I can't remember...

as far as the movie goes I'm not going to hold the first movie against them....I'm going to give this one a try with a clean slate....hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

ive always wanted to start from the beginning. My dad would always leave the tv on at night, falling asleep on the couch and i would watch some of them.

They would scare the **** out of me.

maybe tv-links has 'em.
