81: Horrible/misleading box art

When you're a kid, packaging is important. When you see the cover you expect that's what the actual game will look like.

No console had more of a problem with bad box art than the Sega Master System, at least for the North American box art for it's games (the Japanese originals were usually awesome). Japanese box art for Sega games were pretty colorful and well, Japanese. For some reason with the American release of the Master System they decided to package games in really bland boxes with poorly drawn images over the same boring checkered background, I honestly believe that system would have sold better if the box art for it's games weren't so f*cking unappealing. It's not like they had some kind of budget problem, was finding good artists to do the artwork really that hard?

NES cover art was excellent. They had some really well done artwork and the early Nintendo developed games actually showed images from the game ON the cover. Why couldn't sega do the same for the MS?

I mean look at this.

WTF is that? A wrestler holding his own head? What the hell is that all about?

Master System was a solid console but it's no wonder it didn't sell.

The Americanized box art for the Alex Kidd and Phantasy Star games were especially horrible. Like the old Mega Man artwork but even worse. I don't know why Anime-ish cover art was so unmarketable back then that they couldn't just use the same f*cking cover art.

80: Mindless Nintendo fanboys who hate on Sega despite knowing jack sh*t about Sega

Quote:

ATTENTION ALL SONIC FANBOYS/GIRLS

IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE INFOMATION IN THIS. DON'T ****ING COMMENT!!!!!

Back in the day of gaming...their was one system to have, and one system to have only....Nintendo.

Then up pop Sega to challenge that thought, thus began the first Video Game war.

Nintendo used their all star cast of characters like Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Donkey Kong to sell their machines, with tried and tested gameplay, and usualy had better versions of games.... From the NES all the way to the N64, Nintendo were not to be ****ed with,

Sega on the other hand were more interested with gimics and slogans to get people interested, Just to name a few of these corny ads "It takes Ages to get Sega" and the most famous one "Genesis does what Nintendon't!!", when the adds weren't convicing people, Sega decided to find a Mascot, they made a series of average games to find a Macot..until settling on the idea of a Blue Hedgehog in red running shoes....called Sonic.

The rivalry really heated up with Sonic's games selling machines faster than Mario was for Nintendo...but right there began the problem..... Sonic was the only decent game on Sega's machines, while Nintendo had a handful of awesome games, Sega had 1 success....and they milked it.

By the time Playstation showed up....the damage was done, Sega kept on pumping out adverts, bashing the competition and so many add-ons to the Mega Drive/Genesis that it was incurible, plus the Saturn never really got off the ground....

so the question is allways asked....who killed Sega?

was it Sony??, or was it Nintendo???

I say... Sega killed themselves, they were so obsessed with their image and being better than Nintendo, they basically did a "WCW"... they worried about the competition when they should have focused on their games, no addons, no stupid company bashing slogans, no ****ing gimics, just make good games....

so in the end.... we all said those 2 legendary words to Sega and their dead from the start Saturn....

Game Over.
Actual f*cking quote.

although in the super fan boys defense i have to say that using a power glove as part of a nintendo/hobbit costume is by far the best use for the device. but you're still dressing up like a freaking nintendobbit... and for that you get universal ridicule hahaha

Wonderboy = Great series.

Sega needs to bring it back.

mr dave 09-22-2008 08:27 PM

they should bring back the wonderboy series mega man 9 style. same old style just made to run smooth.

Sega needs to revive their classics. They have done Sonic, Virtua Fighter and Phantasy Star to death. And no one cares about Monkey Ball.

What about Shinobi, Ecco, Panzer Dragoon, ToeJam & Earl, Alex Kidd, Vectorman, Ristar, Space Harrier, Wonderboy, Fantasy Zone, Streets of Rage? Maybe even sequels to Dreamcast games like Rez and Jet Set Radio. Sega have such an amazing back catalog, it just seems like a waste that a lot of their best games never get sequels but Sonic has to get one every week, theres more to Sega than Sonic dammit.

They FINALLY made a Nights game, not everyone liked it, but at least they finally made a damn Nights game after fans had been begging forever. And those slackasses will probably never make the last part of the Shenmue trilogy.

People are naturally excited about the new Golden Axe game, I don't know what Sega is gonna do if they f*ck even that one up.
