Another thing that really grinds my balls is the decline of traditional animated films. Disney have become such slackasses they don't even make good movies anymore, they pretty much leave it to Pixar now.

There are two kinds of computer animated films... Pixar and third rate imitations that try to be Pixar.

Yeah, the only animated films in the 00's that got in theaters that I liked that weren't made by Pixar were the first Shrek and Persepolis. There are other good animated films, but you have to look hard and go to film festivals and stuff to even hear about them. My knowledge of independent animated films is pretty limited.

Most of these CGI films look so generic. You can try and make it look as "realistic" as possible, that dosen't make it look good, Pixar does this kind of animation the best, everything else is a pale imitation that does absolutely nothing to stand out.

Traditional animation when done right still looks better than anything done with CGI. Hayao Miyazaki is proof enough of that.

Indeed, in general you can achieve a much better style with traditional animation. As you said, look at Miyazaki's work; both Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle look fantastic easily on par with anything Pixar has done, although I haven't seen Wall-E.

i would love some traditional animation that isn't anime

Not to knock miyazaki, i love all those movies, just getting sick of only having one art style

Film studies is actually really similar to Film Production. Well, the course that I studied anyway. We never had to listen to anybody talk about them, but instead explored the production/ creation of them and its significance in reception etc. And it was called 'Film Studies.'
