This is exactly it. I've got it downloaded but I haven't tried it yet. The only complaint I've read so far is that some of the voice acting is hit or miss.

Eh, the voice acting's not really far from the original. They both have the problem of virtually every scientist sounding like Kleiner and every guard sounding like Barney. I call it Oblivion Syndrome.

playing Grand Theft Auto IV : Episodes from Liberty City

2 new stories using the same game engine and backdrop

too much macho crap in The Lost & The Damned - about a biker gang

The Ballad of Gay Tony is better - you play a bodyguard to a club owner - has got a lovely rhythm subgame and the story's better

Love both the main game and the episodes as well. Can't believe you don't like the biker gang stuff. Just stick on the death metal radio channel and you're away.

Currently playing on PS3 Driver San Francisco and nearly finished it and also playing Deus Ex.

Gonna wait til Friday to purchase it. I'll just live vicariously through your posts telling us how awesome it is. Think Mr Dave was stepping up on it today also. Very eager to play it but I can wait four more days.

Black Mesa

The mod I've been waiting for 6-years to come out is finally out and what's the final verdict? I think these guys hit this one out of the fucking park! It's no secret that I'm a pretty big Half-Life fan, and while I love the rest of Valve's offerings, this one means the most to me. It's definitely been hard these last five years, waiting for the next installment to the Half-Life series, and it's no different with the Black Mesa mod. I even had a little bet going with a friend over what was going to see the life of day first, Half-Life 2: Episode 3 or Black Mesa (I won the bet), and yeah... this team has really managed to do a good job with giving a classic the respect it deserves, while still making the game feel like it's their own.

What I like most about the game is that they're not afraid to fix some of the things that just didn't work in the first one, like the rails section where you have to shoot the signs to change the tracks, or that stupid giant fan section. I also like how they occasionally trick you, where you try to move forward doing the same thing you did in the original, but have it not work, it's nice how I'm not breezing through this game on autopilot. I also like the effort put into the little things, like watching a houndeye mesmerized by a TV playing static. It was also pretty cool to see younger versions of Eli Vance and Dr. Kleiner at the start of the game, and the voice acting is pretty close to the ones in Half-Life 2. I think the best improvement though is seeing first-hand, the chaos of the facility right after the Resonance Cascade. In the original much of the facility was already overrun or destroyed by the time you started exploring it, and it wasn't until Half-Life: Blueshift that you really got to see what happened while Gordon was passed out in the chamber, and Black Mesa really captures that same spirit.

Basically if you missed the original Half-Life but keep on hearing old fucks like myself go on about it, this is your chance to experience the magic for yourself, present with nice graphics and in a somewhat more realistic setting. Plus it's free so yeah... just get this game already.

Black Mesa's decided to throw the good old Marines at me (spoiler alert) who are somehow even more horrible to fight than they were in the original so I'm going to give the game a break to make sure I don't rage and throw my computer out of a window any time soon. For some reason I thought playing lots more Team Fortress 2 would be a way to avoid that. I still can't finish my goddamn Tour of Duty in Mann Vs Machine but on the plus side I've had plenty of drops over the last couple of days which bring me closer to my true goal in TF2- crafting another hat.

I remember how impressed we were with the AI of those marines back in the day when the original Half-Life was fresh. Looking forward to meeting them in Black Mesa. :)
