I picked up the new Double Fine game The Cave today on a deal. It's a pretty charming little game but man there are some awkward controls that make the platforming sections frustrating. It plays a lot like Trine, which is a little disconcerting considering this is a Double Fine production and I expect a little more than a game similar to one from 4 years ago. I also don't like how there's no dialog between your characters, which is odd considering it's from Ron Gilbert, one of the original designers behind the first two Monkey Island games. Still it's pretty charming and there's some good writing in the narration, but it's not quite what I was expecting, especially given its pedigree. |
My brother got that and I feel bad for him. It looks really boring and lame.

The puzzles are actually very well designed and there's not so obtuse that you need to constantly consult GameFAQS just to figure out what you're suppose to do. I just wish it had some tightened jumping controls and a little more characterization through dialog as you have to play as 3 different characters per game, so it makes sense to have some kind of back-and-forth as you play.

My poison is PS3, and I am currently jumping back and forth from Fallout 3, Skyrim, X-Com, and Soul Caliber 5.
Not a big FPS fan. much prefer RPG's. been a big fan of bethesda since the original Buldars Gate |

some may find this tedious back tracking, but it sounds like more realistic crime solving. the makers said they took alot of inspiration from the BBC show Sherlock. |

On a Skyrim binge. My mom came to visit and was horribly amused when I exclaimed in exasperation and sadness, nearly a whine (while trying to complete that infernal Sodngard quest) "Why are you doing this to me?!"
I also must confess that I said, "That one bard song from Skyrim is stuck in my head," at work (knowing full well which one I was referencing, but not wanting to seem like even more of nerd than absolutely necessary. My work buddy was like, "Which one?" and I was like, "Age of Aggression and Oppression. Both of them, really." Then he asked if I was a Stormcloak or an Imperial. I said Imperial. We then proceeded to have a sing-along of the song, beginning with: "Down with Ulfric! The killer of kings..." |
