Nah, 40 minutes is more than enough time to waste on a single level, ain't nobody got time for that shit.

Ok so I did go back and try again and managed to pass the level so I played another hour or so before getting stuck again! Those burning vines are a pain in the ass. Anyways, I'll take it easy and try again every once in a while, trying not to get too frustrated.

In the meantime, to satiate my metroidvania hankerin', I bought Hollow night and Dead cells, so excited to start those...

I also tried to play a bit of Assassin's creed Odyssey and it looks cool although less intuitive than God of war (I have no idea how to equip weapons? They expect you to have played the previous titles maybe?). I roamed around a bit and then couldn't figure out how to kill some wild dog or wolf or something which seems to bite you once and kill you (the swords don't seem to work). Will come back to it sporadically.

Oh and I also bought and tried Lego Marvel Super Heroes, but for some reason (much like Knack II and Ratchet and Clank) 3D arcades don't appeal to me much at the moment.

Oh and I'm still playing Little nightmares, which is comparatively chill as opposed to the above titles.

Yeah I got it because it got good reviews. I'll spend more time with it once I get tired of the metroidvania stuff.

Have you tried Bloodstained? It's by the guy behind all the Metroivania Castlevanias and is one of those games in all but name.

Yeah I saw it being mentioned but it looks a bit too retro-y for me. I'm looking for the mechanics of metroidvania but a more contemporary look (Dead cells is retro but seems to be one of the best in the genre so I made an exception).

This looks kinda interesting:

It's as modern-looking as you're gonna get.

Not true, all of the games I mention (apart from Dead Cells) look much more modern (or at least don't make you feel like you're back on an atari or something).

Alright you're thinking of Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, which was like a companion game released as a prequel for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night while it was still on Kickstarter. This is what Ritual of the Night looks like:

Spoiler for bigass pic:

I saw this gameplay actually and it looked (looks?) a bit pixelated, but you're right, it's not that bad actually. Certainly looks better than Dead cells.
