I don't believe in guilty pleasures because it's always seemed kind of pointless to me to feel guilty about liking things.

But if I did feel guilty, I'd say that Never Back Down is one of them. At first I didn't recommend it, but over time it's grown on me, and now I can recommend it for what it is:

An overly stylish, hypocritical, unintentionally funny movie with really pretty boys beating up on each other. But **** it, it's a good time.

Of course, in my house, I now get made fun of because I've admitted to liking it. I also told them I didn't like 300 so much and they aren't fond of that either.

The Story of Riki-oh, god that film is so awful.

The Lion King.

simplephysics 12-09-2008 05:51 PM

The Lion King is the best Disney movie, ever.

From what I remember it has almost nothing to do with the original either.

No, seperate instances of teenage werewolves.

So, I'm just gonna bump this...

http://www.impawards.com/1995/poster...dredd_ver1.jpg

^ It's just so cheesy, unintentonally hilarious and the like that I can't help but love it.

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...OAltrOZOFS&t=1

^ Arnie vs the Devil? How can that possibly make for a sub-par movie? Bugger the popular opinion - this film is boss

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...X1UPvDl6Bg&t=1

^ And, while I despise just about every other Hugh Grant movie, I still really like this one, at least up 'til the point that the cliched, schmaltzy rom-com ending comes into play. I'm just a sucker for movies that show you (however inaccurately it may be) what it's like behind the scenes like this one does though.

ThePhanastasio 01-28-2011 02:55 PM

^ I actually have seen End of Days more times than I care to admit!

http://reviewofall.com/wp-content/up...onfessions.jpg
I don't know at all why, but I've probably watched this movie over a dozen times. I have no explanation for why I like it so much, and I'm kind of embarrassed to admit it in the first place.

http://www.theroommovie.com/roompics/posterc.gif
This is a godawful movie, but I love it.

I probably only like this one because I live like, fifteen minutes from the Marshall campus, but whatever.

The books are just as mindlessly addictive.

^ And, while I despise just about every other Hugh Grant movie,

:(....Love Actually is by far one of my favorite movies of all time

but another one is End of Days....here is why

1. Gabriel Byrne (best depiction of Satan since De Niro in Angel Heart)
2. Elderly Satanist (there is nothing cuter than a group of old people worshiping Satan....this is the best group since Rosemary's Baby)
3. Robin Tunney (Helen of Troy may have launch a thousand ships.....but was she pretty enough to get Satan out of hell with the soul(get it?) purpose of courtship?....NO!)
4. Kevin Pollack (simply put....a fucking badass
5. and last but not least
Spoiler for the best part about End Of Days:
Arnold Schwarzenegger fucking crucified!....who died for your sins now motherfucker!

duga 01-28-2011 04:21 PM

I have a soft spot for romcoms...what can I say, I like it when people end up together yayyy. I've seen the Wedding Singer so many times I could probably recite it line by line. I'm not going to think about it, though, because chances are I really can and that would just depress me.

The funniest guilty pleasure actually doesn't come from me. My brother looks like a Hell's Angels youth...he's big, bald, and honestly it's weird that he doesn't have a Harley. His favorite movie of all time is:

I actually ADORE that movie - mostly for Billy Nighy and Colin Firth's respective storylines, and not so much for Hugh Grant. But I think Love Actually is a pretty awesome movie.

Shanghai Knights, don't ask me why, because I'm not sure myself other than finding Lord Rathbone (Adian Gillen) oddly arousing. I didn't like Shanghai Noon at all and Shanghai Knights seems like one big unintentional joke, but I for some reason I find myself watching it at least once every few months.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-28-2011 05:02 PM

I love watching Love Actually just to see Bill Nighy's scenes (And to see Joanna Page in the buff but that's another story).

Nobody plays fucked up old rockers better than him.

Weekend at Bernies 1 and 2. I love 2 a bit more than the first one though.

Only video game film I really enjoy.

Once stayed up until 4:30 AM watching:

No matter how much I watch it, I can never get tired of Ginger Snaps. All 3 of them

Guybrush 01-29-2011 03:36 AM

Ah, Gymkata was brilliant :D You gotta love a film with romantic interests that suddenly just disappears from the plot, James Bond super tools that are introduced but never used, a city which is only inhabited by only insane criminals who, frankly, what the hell do they do all day when there's no race? Walk around with masks on backwards? This is just the tip of the ice berg. There's just too much unintentional idiocy in that one to not like it.

I can also join the ranks of those who like the sometimes atrocious Kung Pow.

Otherwise, my guilty pleasures are mainly cheap horror flicks, for example I enjoyed basically all of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Acting and plot and so on sucks for the most part, but you got people dying in all sorts of crazy ways and dreamscapes and general style over substance which still has charm. I'm also a sucker for all things Lovecraft inspired, regardless of how good quality it actually is .. Films like Re-Animator 2: Bride of the Re-Animator, From Beyond and Dagon are movies I enjoy.

I love how the film was put together, what with all the different though connected stories of each character. I actually quite enjoyed it until the last 20-30 minutes, which were just painfully schmaltzy. The story strands with Alan Rickman and Bil Nighy in them were far and away my favourites of the lot all the same.

Gabriel Byrne is pretty badass in this, but I'd put Al Pacino in the Devil's Advocate above him in my estimations, mostly because the lord of darkness isn't a bit stupid like in End Of Days, which is a slight flaw for me.

And, yeah, watching Arnie getting beaten up by that old woman was the highlight of the whole thing :D

Dr_Rez 01-29-2011 08:46 PM

Haha Tore, good call posting Kung Pow. I remember at the end they said watch for Kung Pow 2 but I think it was just a joke.

Haha, yeah, appearantly the trailer is mostly made out of "deleted" scenes from the first :) The trailer was just a creative way to use that spare footage I guess.

Howard the Duck 01-30-2011 05:32 AM

Mickey Blue Eyes. It's just a stupid Hugh Grant vehicle which just happens to feature mobsters but I love it.

They should have cut out more. I too love Kung Pow, I'm feeling strangely enough the film's biggest problem is that it had a budget. There are some damn strangely brilliant gags in there, they just kind of overdid it with the length/usage of CG since they had to live up to the fact it was a Hollywood release.

Yeah, the parts that are not based on footage from the old films are not really that enjoyable to me (baby fight, cow fight, french aliens) .. What I like in the movie is the absolutely retarded dubbing and dumbass dialogue. :p:

Pretty Woman. I've seen it more times than any human should. And I can easily watch it every other month or few months.

Ska Lagos Jew Sun Ra 02-03-2011 08:53 AM

May I add on the first two Addam's family films? Feel they're massively underrated classics even if cheesy kids films.

I myself have a weakness for bad chick flicks. Especially Pretty Woman. It was also one of the only times that I ever thought Julia Roberts was actually hot.

Any B-Movie that has ever been shown on SyFy.

Oh, and both National Treasures (I love Riley Poole  "Guys look at this! It's a little golden man!")

It's all I care about on SyFy anymore, save for Doctor Who and Twilight Zone reruns.

you don't like Warehouse 13? or Eureka? or the new Being Human remake?
