Guilty Pleasures-Films?

We all have guilty pleasures for music but what about movies? A couple of mine:

Anything with Jean Claude Van Damme-He can't act and the last few years has seem some real tripe (The Hard Corps) but I can't help but watch anything he's in.

Armageddon. I usually detest stupid Hollywood blockbusters like this but I have watched this at least half a dozen times and still enjoy it.

Doug McClure films-Journey To The Centre Of The Earth, The Land That Time Forgot etc Sci-Fi monster mash films that evoke wet rainy Sunday afternoons and your Dad fast asleep in his chair.

Mamma Mia?
Also, I have the first James Bond for some reason. Not that I'd see it again, but I thought it was alright....mostly because of Craig though...*fag*

Nah. I would'nt put them as guilty pleasures. GP's usually consist of a cheesy factor whether it is storyline or acting etc

adidasss 11-17-2008 07:14 AM

I take it you haven't seen Mamma mia then....;)

Son of JayJamJah 11-17-2008 07:49 AM

Red Dawn
Con Air
The Karate Kid Series

There are more for sure.

simplephysics 11-17-2008 07:57 AM

The 3 Ninjas.. makes me smile every time.
Also Spice World, but I don't know if I should feel guilty for that.

That's more like it :D

Adidasss-no I have'nt seen Mamma mia yet but surely the cheesiness is part of it's charm and it is actually well made?

Roygbiv 11-17-2008 08:24 AM

Among my serious-film-watchers group of friends, Knocked Up is not such movie, and thus it is considered a guilty pleasure for me. It's one of my favourite movies because I can watch it over and over and over again, 'cause it makes me feel good everytime. There's also Mission Impossible 3, which I watched about 3 or 4 times in two days, and Casino Royale, which I've watched about the same amount of times.

I know this isn't fair, but in my definition of guilty pleasure, these movies count. Escapist fun. To me that's a guilty pleasure. A medium that you can use to escape.

But if we're going with the traditional definition, the Spice Girls movie brings back many nostalgic memories, and so I would watch it again.

Um, it's a bad film that relies entirely on ABBA's greatest hits to make it watchable. The humor was bad, the singing was bad, the story was bad and the directing was bad. But it's not a B-movie if that's what you're asking...:\

I love the old Disney Robin Hood animated movie...but do Disney films count as guilty pleasures...? I have watched 13 Going on 30 way too many times...

Son of JayJamJah 11-17-2008 12:28 PM

Here Veronica we'll share the wealth.

This is the epic fight scene from Gymkata.

Thank goodness someone put a pommel horse of stone in the town square and that the attackers only came in waves of two at a time and that only one of them used one of several weapons the mob had accrued. Awesome stuff.

The Original is the best.

That film looks the balls. I'm going to have to dig that out.

There are much better reasons for hating him.

Here's one

Statham is wonderful as Turkish in Snatch. A delightful Guy Ritchie caper from the early part of the decade.

RoemerMW 11-17-2008 06:53 PM

Tremors
Them!
Eight Legged Freaks
The Blob

I feel very guilty for enjoying these so much, but it can't be helped.

WWWP 11-17-2008 07:47 PM

Hairspray!!!

Roygbiv 11-17-2008 08:06 PM

Shoot 'Em Up was great! Did you see Crank? That's another great guilty pleasure movie in a similar style.

I am a sucker for really bad sci-fi monster movies. The Blob, Them... you know the ones.

DJ Phoenix 11-18-2008 03:51 AM

MOst of the 80s comedy/teen films films:

Fletch
Back To School
Weird Science
Valley Girl
etc.

Big McLargeHuge 11-18-2008 04:19 AM

Napoleon Dynamite.

:(

The Unfan 11-18-2008 07:36 AM

Plan 9 From Outer Space gets my vote. Aliens and zombies in the same film? Sign me up! Also, Eros might be the coolest character in terrible movie history.

Crank is amazing. Completely OTT and who can hate a film that opens up with Quiet Riot's 'Bang Your Head'?
