I get that but some of the building up doesn't go anywhere especially when they still end up leaving out parts. I am taking my time reading the books because I really want to finish off the tv series and then read all the books. I like keeping the two separate. The only season that goes hand in hand with the books is the first season. If I want fully fleshed out characters that is what the books are for and to give added back story.

Nah that's bollox. You don't need to know anything other than that there are two main parties in the UK and of course the monarch, all of which feature in the original. That's like saying you need to know about US politics to enjoy the new one, or indeed anything like The West Wing or Madam Secretary. It does help, as I said though, to know your Shakespeare.

I never bothered with The West Wing or Madam Secretary but having a little knowledge of US politics definitely helps with US House of Cards.

I haven't seen House of Cards since

Spoiler for spoler:
it became a lame family melodrama in season 2. the premiere was incredible, but the claire stuff got old fast. the show went away from what it was good at, depicting shady practices.

Is it worth returning?

I don't know why I'm asking when I have like 10 things I know are more worthy in my queue.

Season 3 isn't that great imo but season 4 knocks it out of the park.

The last few episodes of season 4 are actually amazing. Some of the best in the show, easily.

First episode of American Gods.

So good in so many ways and completely captures the vide of the book so far.

Just finished the first episode of Season 5 of House of Cards. I'm stoked for this season even more now.

Same but I don't feel like binging it. I will watch an episode each night.

On episode 5 of the new House of Cards season. Damn man, this **** is so entertaining.

Black Sails.
Oh my god.
How come I missed this when it first came out ? How come it's not widely recognized as something significantly superior to things like the Game of Thrones ? Why do dogs have cold noses ?
There are many questions I don't know the answer to. But if your question is "Hey, so I've been looking for a great tv series to get into, preferably set in real historical places, with many authentic characters, with lots of well made sex and brutal violence, historically accurate details and surprisingly realistic fights... which tv series should I choose?", Black Sails is the answer.
I've binge watched the 2 first seasons so far, so I "might" be "a bit biased" ;)
