Yeah I was about to say, I would watch solely to see what flamboyant suits she wears this season.

Yes, and you should be. It's a lot better than I remembered, it does get more interesting as the seasons go on. Would recommend, just don't watch that awful spinoff that came years down the line.

Trollheart 11-21-2020 05:33 AM

I'm a halfway decent player, and I absolutely loved the brilliance of the games that were arranged, but I don't think you would necessarily have to be any good at it or even be interested in the game at all to enjoy the series. Anya Taylor-Joy was amazing as Beth Harmon. Seriously recommend to anybody, really.

I'm watching this right now though the character of Beth Harmon makes a rather unsatisfactory leading lady imo. She doesn't convey much on screen about how she's feeling, so you are left wondering if she is feeling anything at all. The series rather backs up the stereotype of chess geeks being nerds who can't handle romance.

I'd like to see a prog that focuses on the real weird world of chess grandmasters: Paul Morphy, for example, who...

... but also walked around barefoot, I believe, the better to absorb energy from the planet's core. And for more rl drama, there was quite a lot in the epic Fischer/Spaskey rivalry played out in Iceland forty-odd years ago.

I'm godawful at chess cause I have zero ability to plan multiple moves ahead but chess is still mad cool and I just watched a great Youtube vid about the evolution of chess computers vs human chess masters that ended up being super intense for the breakdown of the matches between computer and grand master and it got me interested in watching chess competitions.

Thanks, I might watch that over the weekend.

Why thank you!! My roommate also mentioned that it was all on youtube (shortly after you posted this) so it will be DEGRASSI TIME soon. I am looking forward to reexperiencing incredible scenes such as the one below.

Glad to help, Madam Mayor. How's it been going while I was away?

The Batlord 11-21-2020 06:34 PM

No don't tell him. He abandoned us and should be shunned.

goldendoodle 11-21-2020 07:22 PM

Well I couldn't say anyway, because I've hardly been in the forum over the past several months since I'm in the MB discord and discord is so much more convenient in every way.
