I've seen Coraline already, it's pretty cool. Very dark and twisted in a cheerful sort of way.

Arent all Tim Bourton's movies that way?

Birdie Num Nums 02-11-2009 09:22 PM

Coraline isn't a Tim Burton movie.

Coraline is Henry Sellick.

I'm really looking forward to Watchmen. :tramp:

Sneer 02-11-2009 09:29 PM

I really want to see Coraline. Public Enemies is another

Birdie Num Nums 02-11-2009 09:32 PM

It doesn't come out until much later this year but I'm really looking forward to Spike Jonze's Where The Wild Things Are. It's been in production hell for a few years, I'm really glad that it's finally going to see the light of day.

It's actually Henry Selick. I know a guy on another site who rips people up for saying that. He's a film snob though.

sweet_nothing 02-12-2009 10:11 PM

Henry Selick is a long time collaborater with Burton , he did the animation for Nightmare Before Christmas, so it's no coincidence that Coraline looks like a Burton movie.

Anyway, some upcoming movies I'm looking forward to.

Alice in Wonderland: Directed by Tim Burton - I can't imagine this not working, who could possibly be more appropriate for this than Burton?

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: Directed by Terry Gilliam - While Gilliam hasn't done a better than average film since 12 Monkeys, I have high hopes for this one, especially since it's Ledgers last film.

Last Days of Coney Island: Directed by Ralpth Bakshi - I'm a big Bakshi fan, and I was quite excited to learn he's working on his first film in nearly 20 years.

Where the Wild Things Are: Directed by Spike Jonze - Only 2 films in 10 years, Jonze really takes his freaking time.

Akira - The live action version. I think Leonardo DiCaprio is gonna play Kaneda and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is gonna be Tetsuo. Yeah I know, this is probably gonna suck, but I'm too damn curious.

Burton's been using little color lately though, and Alice in Wonderland is a very colorful movie.

call me what you will but all I really want to see at the moment is the Transformers sequel. I massively enjoyed the first one when I finally saw it, the best kind of popcorn movie, no hokey 'characterisation' and just plenty of nutty mythology and cracking FX.

The IMDB trailer whet my appetite, the robots are BIGGER. And yes, they are beating the sh*t out of eachother

Roemilca 02-14-2009 09:01 PM

Transformers 2.

Yeah man who needs characterization? Only the worst movies like evar.

Molecules 02-14-2009 09:12 PM

well when you go to see a movie on the pretext that it's about giant talking robots and it's direct by Michael Bay you don't expect much of it really. And what there was i thought was handled with some good laughs, Shia LeBeouf playing the classic neurotic Jewish kid-turned-hero.

The point is the movie served it's purpose, it allowed me to stuff my face with take-away and forget everything for a couple of hours; it was pure junk-indulgence and I didn't have to cringe at any ham-fisted attempts by the producers to make it relevant or deep. see: Pearl Harbour (an action movie posing as a historical drama)

edit: AND it had John Turturro in it. What more do you need?

Surell 02-14-2009 09:25 PM

Yeah I'm just teasin ya. But I liked it too, I won't admit that often though. It was fun.

Everyone hates LeBeouf but I won't lie, I actually liked him in Transformers. I thought Bay casting a guy like him in the lead instead of someone like Ben Affleck was dare I say it?....... original.

It looked interesting. One of my friends read the graphic novel and said it was amazing, so me and my friends will probably see it.

Isn't it all how everyone is hyping this movie when it's the same people who hated 300?

Guess who's directing it, that guy.

Yeah and he's ruining the ending. BUT the rest of the movie looks pretty good. I didn't mind 300; then again, I didn't read 300. I did read Watchmen, so that's why I'm pissed about it.

Tyler Durden 02-27-2009 09:42 AM
