i think 'the usual suspects' gets listed as overrated because it has no longevity once you've seen it. the only appeal is to film students and armchair directors who want to analyze the way the film was structured to maintain the twist until the last possible moment.

it's like a hitchc0ck movie that doesn't have a compelling story to support the twist at the end. TUS ends up as 85 minutes of premise and 5 minutes of significance.

No I thought the story was compelling, though it's quite a shock when you learn that it is indeed, just a story.

I saw the film more as commentary on how the media glorifies all the wrong things. They portray the two killers to be like movie stars. So it was more about the negative aspects of the media, because it really did go all out on the violence.

Stone heavily rewrote the story that Tarantino wrote, though, so I don't think all the blame should be on him.

Well you're right about that.

Stone has been on a serious crap binge since 1991. Though I've heard that World Trade Center was surprisingly good.

W. has a lot of mixed opinions about it. I do want to see it out of curiosity and I've heard even from those that hated the film that Brolin is excellent as dubya.

Even Pineapple express? To be clear, I think Knocked up is his best and none of them are brilliant, but I still think his comedy is refreshing and I'll go see all of them. :\

step brothers, drillbit taylor, pineapple express, and forgetting sarah marshall; what do these movies have in common?

about an hour and a half of sub-par pithy dialogue/fart jokes, as well as sharing the distinction of trying to cash in on knocked up and 40 year old virgin's successes.

if you look at apatow's past movies and compare them to the present, you see a huge difference in quality. Kicking and Screaming, Talladega Nights, Anchorman, etc, were all very well written and acted, usually with subtle or dry humor. His latest showings are like someone gave a ****load of money to a bunch of seventh graders and said "make a movie about what you think is funny."

40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad are all hilarious.

Didn't like Step Brothers at all.
