I remember watching a horror flick in the 80's called 'superstition' - about a witch that lived in a pond near a family home. That **** me up good. Think it was on the UK banned list for a while.

Best horror I've seen recently was Frank Darabont's 'The Mist'.

I think there's a few winners:

Most Disturbing- Hostel

Creepiest- Nosferatu

Most likely to make me sh*t myself- the Exorcist

halloween movies were more thrillers than straight up horror movies. and by the "halloween movies" i mean the first two.

By the time this movie is over you will have no intentions of picking up a hitchhiker ever in your life. The scariest factor of the movie is how Rutger Hauer (the guy who playes the hitch hiker) plays such a believable role. And I think what is so scary to me about the movie is how easily and how fast this could really happen.

I think everyone should see this movie at least once.
The opening 20-odd minutes are terrific. As for the rest, I enjoyed it, but felt it kinda tailed off a little towards the end.

Another great one I just remembered is Braindead. It's the only movie that's ever made me feel slightly ill from watching it (and not in the Pretty Woman sense of the phrase).

That is why I cannot get into it. Those scenes are utterly laughable. The film is Zombi- the one with the underwater shark? Then that's Lucio Fulci and it's class. If you want to see an earlier classy zombie film check out 'Let Sleeping Corpses Lie' AKA 'The Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue' which despite being made in 1974 is quite brutal and has a cracking atmosphere.
