Futurama

Basically the place where all the good Simpson writers went. A funny show that you cant NOT like. It deserves a thread.

Season 1: 1999
Season 2: 1999-2000
Season 3: 2001-2002
Season 4: 2002-2003
Season 5: 2008-2009

I totally agree with you, I`d take Futurama over The Simpsons any day, that includes Simpsons season 1-10 when it was good. Have you seen any of the movies yet Rezz (sorry my question mark button appears to not be working). If you have`t I would highly recommend them, they`re all fantastic and have a lot hidden messages that can be open to interpretation. The best thing about Futurama is the fact that it has continuity, something the Simpsons can`t seem to comprehend.

Dr_Rez 05-18-2009 11:14 PM

I havnt actually. Im only up to season 3. All the sites I use to stream them seem not to have working links anymore :(

LoathsomePete 05-19-2009 09:19 AM

I'd just torrent them then, you'll get better quality and you're assured that it'll actually work. Something as popular as Futurama should have enough seeds that if you started it before you go to sleep, it'll be ready when you wake up or if you go to work it'd be done by the time you get home.

SortaGuy 05-19-2009 10:47 AM

I've never bothered to watch the show, but my bro's a fan of the show. I watched an episode with him and I liked it, but that was a while ago

Unrelenting 05-19-2009 12:07 PM

I've always loved Futurama over Simpsons.

Sparky 05-19-2009 02:48 PM

own every episode. It's one of the rare shows that i can enjoy no matter how many times i watch it. Dr. Zoidberg is one of the funniest characters ever.

FaSho 05-19-2009 03:31 PM

I must've missed season 5. This show is win though.

Season 5 is the 4 movies that've been cut up into like 16 episodes or so.

FaSho 05-19-2009 03:40 PM

Ohh. I've only seen Beat With A Billion Backs, are the others any good?

Edit: Disregard that question. I read your first post.

Zer0 05-19-2009 03:51 PM

Bender's Game is pretty good.

Yeah Futurama beats the hell out of The Simpsons

LoathsomePete 05-19-2009 04:37 PM

I loved Bender's Game because I use to play D&D in my high school years and there was a lot of little things for fans of the series (and other table top role-playing games) in general. I think that Beast With a Billion Backs and Into The Wild Green Yonder had the best messages and commentary on religion and the environment respectfully.

Rumors are abounding that Fox might pick up Futurama again after the bastards saw how much money the DVDs were making.

That'd be kinda hard considering Comedy Central now owns the rights to the show ;)

The way they ended the last movie left it open to the possibility.

someonecompletelyrandom 05-20-2009 08:59 PM

Speaking of which, I hated the way they ended the last movie.

the show sucked when it got brought back to tv the first time. it was great when it first started, but then it went off the air for a bit and it turned into some animated version of 'friends' with a slight sci-fi twist. it was crap.

the movies are where it's at. it provides the writers with a perfect environment to create a really thought provoking AND entertaining story arc that doesn't have to be chopped up into bite sized 22 minute chunks.

i really think the series should stay off the tv and keep the direct to dvd releases coming.

While I agree that the movies are great, I must disagree that the show wet downhill since it's first cancellation.

I downloaded all of the Season DVDs at once (before I had ever seen the show) and watched them all over the span of a month. I found each episode to be consistently funny and didn't see much of a change stylisticly, or, at all.

Sparky 05-21-2009 05:39 PM

They did add some weird twists, Fry and Amy's hookup in particular was weird, but it never got to the point where it wasn't hilarious and entertaining.

There has only been one episode i dislike, and that is the one where bender turns into that car at midnight that kills people.

mr dave 05-21-2009 06:38 PM

to each their own i suppose

i found the whole 'relationships' angle the show took on its brief return to tv to be quite detrimental. too sappy. like the pet dog episode, or how every episode had to touch on the unrequited 'love' between fry and leila.

the bender / car killer was a stephen king spoof if i remember correctly. how good did you really expect it to be?

Sparky 05-21-2009 06:48 PM

I don't know, i went in with the same expectations as i did every episode.

I found the dog episode heartwarming :(

And saying every episode focused on fry and lela's relationship is exaggerating a little don't you think?

And the romance between lela and fry has always been still been in line with futurama. I mean, fry sells his hands to the freakin' robot devil to impress her.

Or when bender competes for the love of a female robot against a dude named Flexo, with the only visible difference between them is that he has a goatee.

Or what about Amy going out with kif, an alien?

My point is that, yes they did try to add romance into the mix, but they always kept it ridiculous, and it always felt like futurama.

mr dave 05-21-2009 07:05 PM

i didn't say every episode focused on it, only those after the show came back on air as a mid-season replacement for some other failed fox sitcom.

the robot devil episode = crossroads.

the more i think about it the worse that last half season on tv seems. what made the show great for me was the way the writers were able to take legitimate metaphysical concepts and present them in a hilarious and entertaining way that just about anyone could grasp (and talk about a unique angle for a tv show). the whole relationship angle (like every other single tv show ever) always seemed tacked on to appeal to a wider target demographic.

the movies seem to have freed the writers to go back to focusing on the theoretical science that gave the show it's unique qualities in the first place. i'd hate to see them have to reel it back in so they can write some more fluffy relationship crap so it scores higher with tv test audiences.

All the movies are blurred togethor to me, so forgive me for not being able to tell you the title, but in one of them isnt a large portion of the plot being lela and future-fry's romance?

Or Kif and Amy's Wedding?

The movie's share the same amount of romance as the show.

Even if futurama fell into some of the same cliche's as other sitcoms, it never got to the point where it weakened the show for me. In fact i never even thought about it until you pointed it out.

I don't think it was the writers intention to cater to a larger audience, but instead felt like adding some depth and human emotion to their characters, no matter how absurd they are.

It's a spoof of Christine or Carrie; I can't remember the title of the book but I'm pretty sure it's loosely based on a King novel (with some slight Werewoflish differences.)

I have to agree with mr. dave here though. Futurama is at it's best when it's intelligent and geeky as opposed to sappy but I don't really think it's ever been that bad.

LoathsomePete 03-22-2010 12:11 PM

Oh yeah!

May I think.

bubu 03-26-2010 08:10 AM

I remember I had some guys in high school who were watching futurama at one class. They were saying it's supposed to be comedy but I didn't hear any of them laugh the whole hour.

LoathsomePete 06-24-2010 02:11 PM

New season starts tonight at 10 PST on Comedy Central.

333 06-25-2010 03:07 PM

Damn, I missed it! I've always liked Futurama better than Family Guy.

Astronomer 06-25-2010 06:50 PM

Argh! I don't think it's airing in Australia. I'll have to get my hands on it. Love this show.

keith! 06-25-2010 08:15 PM

coma coma coma coma COMA CHAMELON!

yeah, the new episodes were pretty good in my opinion.

boo boo 06-26-2010 10:13 AM

Important question. Does the new season have the same voice cast? I heard rumors that it would be a new voice cast and I don't see that working at all.

duga 06-26-2010 06:57 PM

They sounded exactly the same to me...

If they have a couple new voice actors, I didn't notice at all.
