Titanic is not the sort of film I like to watch, but from an objective point of view, I'd argue that it is good. If you can agree that commercial value correlates to some extent with overall quality, I think it's still the biggest money maker in movie history.
Just because it made a shedload of money doesn't automatically qualify it as a great film. Technically brilliant maybe too but how many albums are techically brilliant that no one listens to? Titanic was a great achievement logistically. Still overwrought, sentimental claptrap IMO.

As for True Lies, I will confess to only watching it once just after it came out but the fact that I have never felt the need to rewatch is vindication enough for me, although Jamie Lee curtis FTW.

Of course no one cannot judge the film yet but I doubt if I will be rushing to the cinema to see it.
I like the Abyss quite a bit and I'll probably have my man club membership revoked for saying this but I actually like Titanic too. True Lies on the other hand sucked ass. Cameron tried to make two stories into one movie and ended up doing a half-assed job with both. Also, lamest movie villain ever in that one.

I've never gotten around to seeing Piranha II but wasn't it supposed to kind of a B-movie parody anyway?

Contrary to what one might think from watching clips etc, the flying fish are nowhere enough to make the movie funny. I can't remember any humorous stuff from it that was intentional, so I don't think it's a parody. My guess is it just failed.

Ah, I think I just figured out the source of my confusion. Looks like the first Piranha movie, which was directed by Joe Dante and written by John Sayles, is the one that was a parody. What a weird decision to make a non-parody sequel to a parody movie. No wonder it turned out so awful.

Yeah, this movie seemed to take itself way too seriously despite having the most ridiculous premise in horror film history. Unlike the Joe Dante original which was clearly a goofy parody.

Also this movie was edited and spliced up without Cameron's consent, he did the shooting for the film but other than that his role in the production was very minimal. And in a lot of interviews he calls The Terminator his first film, hmm. maybe this is one movie he'd like to forget.
