Bette Davis is my absolute favorite, and I've always dedicated my acting performances to her in the programs for plays I've done.
Why? Well, here are a few good reasons: First, one of her more acclaimed roles. Margo Channing in All About Eve. (As a bonus, young Marilyn Monroe is in this scene.) Next, one of my favorites, as Regina Hubbard in the film adaptation of Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes. Some of the best face acting I've ever seen. The scene gives me chills. And some brilliance from her in the 1960s, in What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? She's delightfully evil. And finally, the scene I saw in a documentary about Bette Davis when I was 5 or so, and it made me want to be an actor. I can't watch that acting performance without being overcome with tears - if I'd never seen it, I don't know if I'd be as serious about acting as I am. |
