John Mayer sounds good but...
 

Ok so im a die hard John Mayer fan. I have seen any live videos he has, any dvds, listened to and studied all his music, and i really enjoy it. Its a chill style with SICK guitar.

Well lately his interviews, and his attitude on MTV and in People magazine has been somewhat disturbing. I feel as a musician, and a great musician at that, he should be presenting himself more appropriately... Now dont get me wrong, who am i to talk down on one of the most successful musicians of all time! I don't at all mean to say i got all my stuff figured out, but i do feel a little bothered by the way he degrades women and has lack of concern for certain individuals moral standings. I feel his arrogance really interferes with his music in the sense that it contradicts some things he stands for. Listen to "Waitin' on the World to Change" then read his interview about intercourse and self-sexual-pleasures.... I get confused...

anyway, im not looking to judge him or degrade him, just seeing what other peoples interpretation of the situation is!!!

i think he's a wanker in every sense of the word. don't really mean it as a bad thing, just calling a spade a spade.

can't really get much douchier..

He is just acting that way because people finally figured out Stevie Ray Vaughn did everything he is trying to do 10x better.

I like john mayer's music. Don't know the guy, haven't seen him interviewed so can't really comment on anything else.

It's best to seperate a musicians music from their character/personality. Most successful musicians are arrogant, contradicting ****heads. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy their music.

really? i don't think i've ever even thought of that as possible, let alone the most appropriate course of action when considering music and it's "creators." if character and personality didn't play a role in music or the speculation related to the experience one has with it as a thing carried out by human beings, there would only be one note and all music would consist of that same note at the same volume with the same timbre playing forever.

what a weird thing to think about. john lennon's imagine came from a man who's character and personality were CONCERNED. trent reznor had character and personality traits that allowed him to fall into a deep f*uckin hole and his music reeks of that stench. i'm sure i could make a lifelong project of naming all the good music (and terrible music too!) that is a direct result of characters and personalities.

...particularly being that a notable percentage of music has words, and the words that come out of peoples' mouths are merely little signposts along the chronology of their lives. you don't say the same stupid sh*t you did when you were 5, because you're not that person anymore... the personality you were when you were 5 would also have created different music than that which you would create now.

EDIT: this is probably close to totally unbiased in that i know very little about john mayer. it's just never caught my eye enough to pay close attention to, and i mean that in the most ignorant way you can possibly imagine. (yes, i just said that.)

But they had something to show for it, I could enjoy their music, and I can't say that about John Mayer. I don't find him arrogant as much as annoying, I find almost everything about John Mayer is annoying, like why he's always on tabloids, etc etc

Of course your personality plays a part in your music because music is a reflection of yourself. But look at Michael Jackson as an example, guy was ****ing loopy, complete nut. But he made great music. Look at Chuck Berry, guy slept with minors and was a complete perv (cctv in his toilets etc) but he still made awesome music.

I'm just saying, don't stop listening to someone's music just because you dislike the person due to their actions. If you enjoy the music then listen to it, simple.
