Well, I got that much out of it. I just could never figure out how to actually play the damn game. I almost feel like downloading it to see if I could figure it out now...

Yeah that's one of my favorite Sonic games.

Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles are probably my two favorite Sonic games.

Well, people will obviously post the games that indeed do suck. Expecting Barbie to be good...well read Dr.Seussicide's post.

This game ****ing pissed me off. It felt like a bad rip off of God Of War. Repetitive gameplay, annoying button tapping puzzles, lack of good enemies, just horrible in my opinion.

When I was a kid I used to play this quite a bit despite the fact that, even at the time, I thought it was a pretty crappy game. It only had four levels, very little variety and hilariously ridiculous music. Basically it felt like a ColecoVision quality of game but it was on the NES.

i don't think games obviously meant for young children belong here either. they're not expected to be good, they're expected to entertain a 6 year old.

as for 'ET' i did play it - on an actual Atari in the 80s. it sucked. but it was NOT actually the worse game i played back then. sure it had very little to do with the movie, then again aside from Dune2 have there actually been many other games based on movies that didn't suck monster amounts of butt? i think a lot of the notoriety stems from the fact that manufacturers overestimated the crossover appeal (especially with a lackluster product), the rest of the hate comes from idiots reviewing an antique within modern contexts. it's like calling a Model-T a horrible car because it doesn't meet modern emission standards.

the worst Atari game i remember was a drag racing title incidentally called Dragster. you had 2 cars on screen and you had to tap the button just right to rev up your engine during the countdown to get max acceleration. if you tapped it too much your engine blew up. this was in an era before touch sensitivity. you were either 'flooring' it or not. i don't ever remember being able to get past the starting line. at least with ET i could explore a forest and sometimes avoid falling in a hole. the whole point to Dragster was to beat the game in under 6 seconds.

@ Duga - Bullfrog is actually one of those studios i REALLY wish rebooted ALL their franchises. they were consistently putting out great games. Syndicate was not half decent - IT WAS AWESOME! though i can understand why it would be frustrating to a 5 year old.

as for the Ninja Gaiden comments. challenging is not the same as bad. the games were hard (very hard at times) but beatable. i used to be able to get to the first of the final bosses in the original ninja gaiden on NES without losing a life back in the day. never did beat the 2nd final boss though. only ever saw the final final boss and ending on an emulator years later. that game made me punch my NES controllers SOooooooo much hahaha.

Yeah there's the good kind of challenging, like Ninja Gaiden and many similar action games.

And then there's the bad kind, like Dragon's Lair for the NES or Bebe's Kids for the SNES, which are just broken beyond repair.

Also, once upon a time not ALL movie/tv show licensed video games were bad, in the 8 bit and 16 bit days it was more like a 50/50 chance of being good or bad. Capcom, Konami, Sega and other good developers did a lot of quality licensed games back in the day.

Nowadays almost every other licensed game is THQ. They're turning into the modern LJN.

Oh yeah speaking of which.

If you find any old games with this logo...

stay away.

To quote the AVGN, there's no gold at the end of that rainbow.

I've been meaning to play Populous for the longest time since I bought and enjoyed the first Black and White game years ago. I'm looking at Bullfrog's titles now on wiki and I didn't realise they were the ones who made the 'Theme' games... I liked the Theme Hospital demo when I played it in the 90s but I preferred Hasbro's Rollercoaster Tycoon to Theme Park.
