Movie Wars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like the Album Wars thread but....with movies!
PM me your suggestions.
First battle-

Janszoon 07-31-2010 05:44 PM

Nice thread idea!

The Shining, easily. The Omen is ridiculous and more funny than scary.

Violent & Funky 07-31-2010 05:49 PM

Damn, I thought about starting this thread a few weeks back. Then I could have gotten a bunch of compliments. :(

So, I should watch each movie before voting, right? Cool.

I've seen The Shining a couple of times and really enjoy it, but I would vote for it ignoring its quality because of The Simpsons "Treehouse of Horror" segment it inspired:

One of my favorite Simpsons memories...

The Omen 0
The Shining 2

dankrsta 07-31-2010 06:28 PM

Great idea for a thread!

Well I like The Omen, but it can't really compare to The Shining

The Omen 0
The Shining 3

bungalow 07-31-2010 06:30 PM

the shining easy

Burning Down 07-31-2010 08:55 PM

Never seen The Omen so I'm going to go with The Shining. Excellent film.

TheCunningStunt 07-31-2010 10:52 PM

The Omen 0
The Shining 6

Easily.

Unknown Soldier 08-01-2010 04:30 AM

I`ve always thought the Shining overrated or in any case laid the groundwork for Jack Nicholson`s usual crazy personas in later films. I think the first Omen is a classic.

Omen 1
Shining 6

Omen 1
Shining 6

Hmm, he seems a little crazy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest which was made in 75 .. I'm not a Nicholson fan, but it wouldn't surprise me if he played slightly nutty/psycopathic tendency-ish characters before that as well.

Anyways, The Shining of course! No contest :)

Omen 1
Shining 7

Omen 1

I was referring more to the 80`s and 90`s period in which he was usually typecast as comical, eccentric and slighty crazy characters.

boo boo 08-01-2010 05:34 AM

He may be a typecast actor but he's still a fave.

The Omen was pretty good but I gotta go with The Shining.

Bulldog 08-01-2010 05:35 AM

I thought the Omen was a good spook story but nothing brilliant, unlike the Shining which has one of my favourite ever scenes in it;

The Shining for me then.

James 08-01-2010 05:36 AM

I'm gonna be running this where I put a new nom up every 24 hours btw.

boo boo 08-01-2010 05:39 AM

Omen 1
Shining 9

I remember watching that scene once dubbed in French. It definitely made it some hilarious shit.

NumberNineDream 08-01-2010 07:18 AM

I do like both, but the first Omen is definitely a Classic, and the boy's smile at the end. Genius. Creepily awesome.
The Shining has awesome scenes (and inspired a great Simpsons special). However, it was a failed collaboration between Kubrick and Stephen King, having Kubrick unable to find anything with an afterlife as negative, and King feeling that Kubrick didn't understand his story.

So because The Omen is falling far behind, I'm going to vote Omen, even though I'm an avid Kubrick fan.

Omen 2
Shining 9

Yeah but if you're gonna be typecast, at least be typecast as something interesting. Rather than just 'that guy who only plays tough guys', or 'that girl who falls in love in every film.'

James 08-01-2010 01:50 PM

Melissa will do the next few days, still send noms to me.

TheCunningStunt 08-01-2010 01:53 PM

Fix it! I bet it's Team America anyway.

EDIT: Just read the link

South Park 1
Team America 0

Hahaha, I forgot how much I loved SP the movie. That's definitely a highlight of the whole movie, the Mole was brilliant.

Just so people are up to date:

South Park 2
Team America 0

Dr.Seussicide 08-01-2010 01:59 PM

South Park 3

Team America 0

Wasn't that hard for me though

NumberNineDream 08-01-2010 02:03 PM

South Park all the way!

South Park 4

Team America 0

DoctorSoft 08-01-2010 02:18 PM

South Park 5
Team America 0

debaserr 08-01-2010 02:36 PM

Guybrush 08-01-2010 04:00 PM

South Park was a lot more entertaining .. The most enjoyable thing in Team America for me was the sad bummer remix of the team america theme song. :p:

Anyways,

South Park 6
Team America 1

Janszoon 08-01-2010 04:11 PM

Both are hilarious but I'm going to go against the grain here and say, "Team America, FUCK YEAH!"

South Park 6
Team America 2

That just has to be brilliant :D

Talking of Shining-related hilarities, I take it you've seen this gem before;

Oh, and Team America gets my vote too.

South Park - 6
Team America - 3

I have. It's still funny as hell though. :D

Janszoon 08-01-2010 04:31 PM

As a reminder of the quality of Team America I submit this stirring speech:

Dr.Seussicide 08-01-2010 04:35 PM

Violent & Funky 08-01-2010 04:45 PM

Hahaha I didn't think there would be so much enthusiasm towards this debate!

I love the concept of Team America: the idea that Trey and Matt don't need actors to make an entertaining "action" movie and can instead use puppets, the simple yet effective metaphor of "Team America" policing the world, and of course FAG and Kim Jong Il as a villain before the American public was even aware of who he was.

All that said, I love South Park. Bigger, Longer & Uncut was made during the show's prime and is really all about what makes South Park so great. Can't vote against it.

Bigger, Longer & Uncut 7
Team America 3

Er... not to turn this into a serious discussion but who the hell didn't know who Kim Jong Il was in 2004? I guess I'll have to chalk that one up to you probably being pretty young six years ago.

bob. 08-01-2010 05:04 PM

i keep watching clips of Team America....damn that was a funny movie....

I was lead to believe he wasn't nearly the prominent figure he is now...

jackhammer 08-01-2010 05:12 PM

Team America by far, it's ridiculously funny and is actually very well crafted I.E the amount of dedication it required. I'm not a South Park fan. Sue me.

You were lead to believe wrong. For one thing George Bush was quite prominently talking about him in his idiotic "Axis of Evil" speeches back in 2002.

Anyway, we're talking movie wars here...

Plus it has that great scene with the cats.
