Movie Club

If I were to start a movie club ala the music clubs for the lounge, who would be down for it? Same rules apply. People nominate movies, then vote, and then we all watch the movie that gets the most, and say what we think about it.

I'd definately be up for that, good idea. But shouldn't this be in the Media section?

djchameleon 01-30-2011 01:56 AM

yeah, Vanilla or some mod, move this to media section please and sticky

I could and would, but this doesn't look like the movie club thread to me. Rather, it looks like the thread which asks if people would like to participate in the movie club once it has been created.

I expect the first post of the movie club thread would be a little more accomplished than 3 simple sentences, for example by having a full explanation of the proceedings, a list of the movies seen so far and links to their discussion.

My suggestion is you use this thread to discuss how to do things and when you think that's sorted, you make the movie club thread. It's a brilliant idea worthy of good and proper execution :)

The first rule of Movie Club is: you do not talk about Movie Club.

Great idea! I'm down.

OK, here's the process of what I'm thinking:

A) Since I'm a not a moderator I cannot actively delete other people's topics. I also want to keep things as uncluttered as humanly possible. So, that means, I want nominations done entirely through PM. From here, I will put them on a master list. This list will show up as something like this:

Quote:

Contributer 1:
Movie Name
IMDB Link
Short paragraph written by contributer describing pick

Contributer 2:
Movie Name
IMDB Link
Short paragraph written by contributer describing pick
B) There will be a cap of 5 movies eligible for voting at any time. There may be more movies than this, but for voting only 5.

C) Voting is done in a voting thread. Essentially, this thread will be nothing but "Vote: Movie Title", and with the help of a mod, hopefully be cleared every time a movie is picked. There will be no poll.

D) Once a movie hits 5 votes, or remains in the lead for at least 3 consecutive days, that movie wins. This is a way to keep the club open, and allow people to jump in, and out, at any point in time. No need to maintain a 'members list'. This rule may change if the participants are more/less than anticipated.

E) A discussion thread will be opened when a movie is picked. You may discuss these as much as you like. I'm hoping to keep the discussion open for 4 days before another is voted on.

Sounds good? The nominations can start now. As stated above, through PM, but also as replies to this thread at the moment(I mean, until we get the ball rolling). Personally, I would like to start off by nominating Carrie Since I downloaded it, but haven't watched it yet, but hear it's utterly amazing.

that really depends on the availability of the movie in the DVD shop near my house - i have a really slow connection and I have a netbook which tends to overheat if I leave it on for too long so downloading's out of the question

I would like to nominate

The Haunting (1963)

http://www.fatally-yours.com/wp-cont...VD%20cover.jpg

"Dr. Markway, doing research to prove the existence of ghosts, investigates Hill House, a large, eerie mansion with a lurid history of violent death and insanity. With him are the skeptical young Luke, who stands to inherit the house, the mysterious and clairvoyant Theodora and the insecure Eleanor, whose psychic abilities make her feel somehow attuned to whatever spirits inhabit the old mansion. As time goes by it becomes obvious that they have gotten more than they bargained for as the ghostly presence in the house manifests itself in horrific and deadly ways."

It is supposedly the world's spookiest movie, yet I haven't seen it! It's something I'd like to remedy one of these days. :)
