Lars Von Trier's films are fantastic indeed. I wouldn't put them in my top 5, well maybe Europa is at number 6 for me, actually, but his work is fantastic. Dancer in the Dark sucked any notion of happiness out of me for a week after I first watched it.

Early Haneke films (The Seventh Continent, Benny's Video, Funny Games) had similar effect on me, to the point I sometimes regret I watched them in the first place. Lars von Trier has a sense of humor at least
