Yeah, I only read NF so its hard for me to find something on the other side, esp. when I keep getting burned for trying stuff.

I don't want to get hung up on semantics or the Dewey Decimal System or how "Borders" classified it's books (r.i.p.) anything like that and step on anyone's toes but Ghost and Aliens are commonly referred to as "Paranormal" while Mythical Creatures and Mystical Stuff are commonly known as "Fantasy."

We can conceive of rain, and a landscape like the US, but where rain constantly falls is slightly above the norm. Thats what I'm looking for. Things like this.
That idea of "a place where it never stopped raining" reminds me of something from the "The Illustrated Man" by
Ray Bradbury.

I'd recommend you scour the used bookstores in your area for Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg. It was written in 1978 but has been out of print for awhile. It blends hardboiled detective fiction with supernatural horror but in a way that is very much like our own and goes unnoticed by everyone. Definitely worth your time, hopefully its along the lines of something you're looking for.

OH! You might also want to check out Nightwatch by Sergei Lukyanenko. It's Russian so if you're not a fan of Russian literature (wouldn't blame you if you weren't) then it's probably not for you, but it really does well with blending science fiction with supernatural elements like vampires and other creatures and an agency that polices them, as well as the monster agency that polices humans.

Oh yes, Nightwatch is so good. I have yet to check out the novels yet but based off of the movies, I'm definitely going to get around to it.

I think in the series they are up to four now but they only made two of the movies, well three I think but the third one never hit the states or there was some issue with the third one even being released.

The supernatural genre tends to get lumped in under Horror but the Syfy channel likes to show some supernatural movies from time to time.
