sprint button is a really nice addition too

midnight rain 11-11-2011 01:36 AM

OMG what's the sprint button? I was pretty baked when I started this game and missed out on a lot of ****. think i'm gonna start it over tomorrow :/

Awesome game so far though.

RVCA 11-11-2011 04:18 PM

Is anyone playing on PC? I can't figure out how to grab/manipulate objects like kettles. lol

Freebase Dali 11-11-2011 08:54 PM

Is the game available to steal yet?

me neither :/

new engine is great though. The graphics aren't that amazing, but just how everything works is a big improvement.

Yeah, I'm onto getting it now.

LoathsomePete 11-12-2011 11:24 AM

Here's a nice little glitch that can help you steal stuff without any consequence.

Speaking of glitches and bugs, has anybody found any that make the game as unplayable as Fallout: New Vegas was at first? I don't want my Thanksgiving weekend ruined by bugs.

Sparky 11-12-2011 02:43 PM

nah, ive yet to run into any glitches yet and im like 10 hours in.

It's no new vegas, that game was legitimately broken on release.

RVCA 11-12-2011 03:01 PM

I ran into one glitch where entering this house would cause a graphical error and basically make the inside of the house look like an endless plane of blue, with floating hair and facial hair the only bodily textures that got preserved. Kinda funny. Other than that, it's been great

Sparky 11-12-2011 03:02 PM

did u figure out how to pick up stuff?

Im using a controller and have tried every button

RVCA 11-12-2011 03:04 PM

Yeah, apparently you just hold down the "use" button, which is E for PC

Sparky 11-12-2011 06:04 PM

coolio. When i find a dragon word do i gotta go to the greybeards to figure out how to use it everytime?

No, you just need to have a spare dragon soul lying around, which you collect after killing a dragon.

Apparently, my graphics card is the only thing that doesn't meet the game's requirements...Bugger.

Guybrush 11-19-2011 05:22 AM

I've played Skyrim for quite some time and am currently at level 22. I'm trying not to progress too far in the story line because I remember the story line as being quite short for Oblivion and Fallout, but the amount of side quests there are to do in this game are staggering! I'm never gonna finish :p:

Or maybe it does meet the minimum specs...Is "Can You Run It?" reliable?

Likewise. I finished the Graybeard quest, and now I'm taking care of all those side quests I opened.

Did you get to the point where you can smith Daedric armor yet? That's a good way to kill some time and discover some locations for fast traveling without doing too many quests. Craft iron daggers over and over again until your smithing reaches 90, get some Daedric hearts, ebony ore, and make you some Daedric armor and weaponry! IT IS AWESOME. Better than dragon armor. Takes a good bit of gold, but at level 22 you should have over 10,000 (which is far more than enough) if you've been selling items you find.

What kind of character are you playing?

Thanks for the tip! I haven't been doing much tradeskilling at all, but money's certainly no problem. I'm at level 25, got two houses fully furnished and still have well over 10k on me.

I played an archer/one hander/destruction/restoration mage :p: I like to try different things and go with what I think works the best and this seems to be alright. Earlier, I used a lot of destruction magic at range with one hand and then sliced up the enemies with my 1 hander when they got close with the other, but sadly, my spells seem as effective dps wise so now I'm relying more on my one hander and a bow for the damage, then I keep a heal spell ready in my left hand.

The tradeskill I've been doing the most is alchemy, as much out of necessity to clear out crap from my inventory as anything else. I'm a compulsive picker of flowers and anything else I can find in the game.

Nice!
Haha, yea I'm definitely the same way when it comes to compulsory harvesting. It's weird, too, because I've made so many potions and I don't really use them. (except for the health potions when I'm not using restoration in a battle)

I sorta wish poisons stayed on weaponry for more than just one hit, though. It's too much of a pain to go to the inventory and reapply poison after every hit, so I just end up not using them and/or selling them.

I think my next character will be a mage. My current one is a Breton with warrior focus. I love the magic resist bonus, and swordfighting is awesome when you have a great shield, a great daedric enchanted sword, and Wuuthrad... lol.
I usually leave my ranged attacks to the bow. Honestly, the only thing I ever use destruction on is fire against frostbite spiders.

What other enemies are particularly weak to fire? I'd assume Ice Wraiths, but I hack them up pretty easily.

Trolls definetly :) Destruction is useful for more than dealing damage though. You probably know this already, but lightning spells drain magic and ice drains stamina while fire just burns. It may be as useful and simpler than using a poison to reduce stam or magick. My problem at the moment I guess is just finding stronger spells as I've had the ones I'm using now for ages.

Potions are definetly a lot of work to use so I don't make a habit of it. Like you, I find it a bit annoying to have to pause the game, find the right potion and so on so I only use them if I really need it. I sell most potions for piles of cash as some of them fetch a nice price .. especially when you got stacks of them!

I think he meant steal as in download for free.

Freebase Dali 11-21-2011 03:36 PM

I don't want any spoilers, but for anyone who's played through the game or got to a point to be able to answer me, is it absolutely necessary for me to cure my lycanthropy, or will there be any ill effects at the end of the game, aka, not being able to get into the Nord heaven...
Does that even come into play?

I've cured the other companions, but I like being able to go werewolf. If I need to cure myself, I'll do so, but only at the last possible moment, if there is one.

Any takers?

I'm almost positive the only detriment is that you don't get sleeping bonuses, which are pretty trivial anyway.

Yea, sleep is for the weak. hehe

I'm definitely going to stay werewolf, if that's the case. If there's a quest related to cleansing myself that won't close until I do, I'll just save it for the final quest-line.

I'm anal about finishing every quest.

There is a side quest that rewards you with a special ring, which lets you go beast mode more often.

I was playing at a buddy's house, and got trapped inside a mountain for about ten minutes. That was kind of frustrating.

Literally just started playing last night, so far I've robbed everyone I've come into contact with.

This is awesome.

Skyrim has never ending quests. Seriously. The game just keeps generating quests after you've beat all of them.

Oh man. My buddy's been playing through like mad, and he has this obsessive need to finish all quests in every game he plays. This is going to drive him insane!

Guybrush 11-22-2011 02:40 PM

It's pretty obvious when you start getting the generated ones, though. For me so far, they've been of the type "go to X to kill bandit leader". Hopefully, an experienced gamer should be able to see them for what they are. ;)

Freebase Dali 11-22-2011 03:18 PM

Yea, when I started asking the Companions for work, at some point, all I was getting was "go here and kill the beast"... which turns out to be a weak ass wolf I just traveled a zillion miles to swipe with my sword once.

Good for gold and all, but not really necessary when you have upwards of 26k and no real need for better gear or shelter.

Do you have all of the Daedric artifacts? Those are pretty sweet and there's like 16 of them so that would eat up time pretty good.

RVCA 11-22-2011 05:17 PM

The other thing to do is join all the factions.

>Dark Brotherhood
>Companions
>Mage Guild
>Thieves Guild
>Imperial Legion or Stormcloaks, don't think you can do both

and I think that's it. I mean, I've only completed the main quest and the Companion quest line, and I'm at 60 hours playtime. There's still so much more to do

Rage Against the Machine 11-22-2011 08:49 PM

I'm at 30 hours and I've still only done about 20 or so quests. Dungeon crawling and just exploring in general is one of the funnest things in the world to me

Dr_Rez 11-25-2011 03:34 PM

Holy mother ****ing ****.

Just got this game and while I can only play it on minimum requirements it is INCREDIBLE. While I expected a lot of bugs some are quite annoying. The main quest alone required me to go onto google a few times just to get through a part or cut scene because it was stuck.

While I have no gameplay gripes the menu's and new hotkey system SUCK for pc. They were made clearly for the console player which is a shame since the franchise started on pc. (but they know most people buying the game will have a console)

Also the idea of picking your class type by playing what you want to progress is nice, a good change for this type of game. I am just waiting on a mod that will change the hotkey/item menu for us pc users.

Just the Black Star, so far. Last night I started the quest at Morthol to get the Mace of Molag Bal, and I'm still working on getting Mehrunes' Razor.

I'm kinda holding back on the Daedric quests until I get to at least level 40. I'm a 32 right now, and I really need to work on my Enchanting skills. So far I've just been leveling up heavy armor, block, archery and one-handed. I made the mistake of enchanting some valuable stuff when I was too low at enchanting, and now I'm stuck with crap enchantments on them.

Do you know if you can disenchant an item that you already know the enchantment for, without destroying it?

Man, I cannot wait until the creation kit comes out. The mods will be awesome! There are some good ones though. I just recently picked up one called "immersive water", and DUDE... wayyyyy better water.

Here's a vid of it. Various shots by the mod creator:

I just got a glitch so i can't progress in the main quest WHICH IS SOME OL BUUUUUULLSHIT

Also got a giant blue crystal stuck in my characters back which won't come out and is breaking the immersion for me!

Sparky 11-26-2011 02:48 AM

Matious

I'm at the part where I convinced the greybeards to have peace talks with these 2 cities but for some reason when i try to talk to the characters the dialogue options never come up. I googled it and it seems like its a fairly common glitch so im optimistic it'll get patched next week.

What i really wanna know is how the **** i get this crystal outta my dudes back the armor doesnt look as tight its really just ****ing with my mojo

Hehe, I didn't want to do the quest for the Mace of Bolag Bal (told the daedra no thanks to his job offer), but then a game glitch (I guess) caused me to complete a step in the quest even though I didn't mean or want to. Anyways, I thought **** it and completed it and, I have to say, the mace makes up for it. I'm specced for maces and it's the most badass weapon I've found in the game so far.

edit :

Also working on Mehrunes Razor by the way! That is, it's one of the hundred things I have on my to-do list.
