Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka is one of my personal heroes.

He maintains a childish sense of wonder, unending creativity, and, aside from Oompa Loompa assistance, is completely self-sufficient.

In the song "Pure Imagination", when Wonka sings, "If you want to view paradise / simply look around and view it / Anything you want to, do it / Want to change the world? / There's nothing to it," I understand that as a personal mantra to be embraced and desired.

He is one of the most lovable and endearing characters of all time, and is certainly someone that I could (and do) look up to.

I don't think I have to write anything more if you saw Band of Brothers. But if not, let me just tell you this guy is my personal hero. The courage, the smarts, the charisma - a perfect, some say too perfect, officer. And a great man who after coming back from WW2 never shot a firearm again.
He was very heroic indeed. I loved that series!

Another one is Ash/Bruce Campbell. When I grow up to be an old drunk, I want to be the king of old drunks, just like Bruce. With a rapier sharp wit and a beer belly that can knock down a mule if used properly.
I'm mixing up the movie character and the actor because they behave the same.

Audrey Tatou. Amelie.

A cliched choice maybe but the character, the performance and the writing are exemplary. Everything just stops short of being the sort of sickly, sentimental crap that annoys the crap out of me.

I couldn't spend the rest of my life with her and maybe that is the point. Just one day would open your eyes to all that is good with the world and then you are back to see the ugliness, the hatred and the blank visage of faces passing you by.

I think only the French could get away with creating such a character and making her utterly believable even though it's fleeting.

It is one one of the very few performances that makes me grin from ear to ear whenever I watch it.

Hero, as in protagonist. The OP wasn't talking about superheroes.

Ryan Golsing in general.

If you combined his antisocial behavior of Lars and the Real Girl, All Good Things and the drug addiction of Half Nelson i honestly think you would end up with me, albeit a lot less sexy.

Love this write up. Wilder's Willy Wonka is far superior to Depp's version (as is the film).
