It is streets ahead of Family Guy and slightly lower than Futurama but pretty close to it.

Maybe because American Dad is awful? Honestly it's been so long since I've watched Fox on Sundays I can't even remember what it was that I hated so much about it, but except for season 2 it hardly ever made me laugh and Roger was just annoying. And about comparing American Dad to Futurama, the greatest cartoon sitcom of all time...

The Simpsons :)

When I was growing up I used to love Ulysses 31 (killer theme tune) and Mr Rossi (WEIRD theme tune!)

djchameleon 01-17-2014 08:56 PM

meh, I never got into The Simpsons enough to the point where I would watch it religiously ever week.

I only catch an episode here or there but it doesn't impress.

It's pretty much the only adult cartoon I watch. I tend to think a lot of those animated shows rely too much on offensive humour or parodies of other things whereas The Simpsons can be quite amusing without vulgarity or having to spoof popular culture.

I love seeing pop culture spoofed though and The Simpsons HAVE spoofed pop culture.

I do get what you mean though, they don't do it as much.

It's just spectacularly not funny. I don't laugh.

Silenzio 01-18-2014 09:20 AM

Since there's a difference in Anime and Cartoon - I'd pick American Dad as favorite cartoon.
I'm not watching much TV anymore to be honest, so I can't say much about the others...

As a kid I enjoyed watching Biene Maja (Maya the bee), The Little Polar Bear (Der kleine Eisbär) and Vicke Viking (Wickie und die starken Männer).
There were hardly ever Anime on TV, but I like are Pokémon and Toradora!

Come on. "Eisbär" is an adorable word.

Sculptor 01-19-2014 03:57 AM

DBZ all the way baby.

Deviouz 01-19-2014 06:32 PM

Yeah, I also vote DBZ along with all the old school Hanna-Barbera and Adult Swim cartoons. Oh, and Spongebob.

Never forget Spongebob.

Never.

And runner-ups would have to be Adventure Time & Regular Show.

djchameleon 01-19-2014 06:57 PM

ugh Spongebob is written by a bunch of high dudes. I will never let my children watch Spongebob.

You better not let your kid know about music, if that's your standard.

Goofle 01-27-2014 07:37 PM

meh music I don't care about and that's a stretch to jump from a whole medium over one cartoon.

Plus hopefully when my kids are around Spongebob will be dead and gone.

Also I know of other parents that refuse to let their children watch Spongebob as well.

You said, "ugh Spongebob is written by a bunch of high dudes. I will never let my children watch Spongebob."

And he said, "You better not let your kid know about music, if that's your standard."

The joke being that music is written "by a bunch of high dudes", which is funny because it's true.

djchameleon 01-28-2014 08:22 AM

No I got that but didn't think it was a joke just more of a stretch really.

Not only is Spongebob written by dudes that are high it is just random non sense littered with jokes that only stoners/adults will get. The entire medium of music isn't like that. Sure some music is written by druggies but not all.

Lol the results of the show prove it enough.

Why do you think Spongebob has a high college age audience?

I know but it is enough to keep my future children away from it.

Goofle 01-28-2014 09:26 AM

Why though? If you don't think it's suitable in terms of what is on the show then fair enough (though I wouldn't understand) but who gives a crap what state the creators of anything were in when they write something?

Its not all that bad, there are shows out there that can do more damage... and I understand your reasoning behind it, but speaking from experience, if you explain things of that nature to you children, they get a better understanding of the world around them, and the lure/mystery of it all becomes trivial for them. It's emotionally healthier than sheltering them from it.

Good advice and something I am willing to take into consideration.

What they are on while creating clearly boils over into the content they are producing. It may have a negative or positive effect on their creative product but I don't like the specific outcome of this show. I am not trying to demonize drug use while creating.

I would say that a very large percentage of the great music out there was made by people who were fond of drugs.
