Like the fact that despite claiming to care about trans lives, people will bully a trans person relentlessly till they kill themself if they say something that is interpreted as going against the cause

And you will sit here and act like his (assumed) motivations for bringing up said dead trans girl are somehow more important than her death and what lead up to it.. hmmmm i wonder why that is ;)

Again, while Chappelle's antics raise some flags I'm not really following him so I can't really throw out any blanket condemnations. I'm more interested in your knee jerk defense of any comedian's good name, and throwing out tired right wing cliches about leftist hypocrisy is par the course for you with this ****.

I had a professor say once that people don't protest good art. This was in the context of Angels in America, but I think 90% of the reason he's taking so much heat is that this special sucked.

He called them "Alphabet people" in the last special and everyone called him the GOAT. He says "Twitter isn't a real place" in this special but I don't get the impression he believes it.

Your response came across to me as knee jerk which is why i was just clarifying what i heard... Which is not to say nothing he did or said can be ridiculed but that it wasn't just i have a trans friend therefore I'm not transphobe... But people on both sides selectively care and don't care i think a lot of it is posturing.. Like why are people more concerned with Chappelle supposedly pulling the trans friend card than they are with the fact that maybe she was bullied into suicide... Seems like precisely the sort of thing people would usually be concerned about

nah i have a hard time believing that's all it is... Tons of bad specials that don't draw any attention. It's explicitly political and was designed and marketed as such which is where all the attention comes from.

Frownland 10-14-2021 12:35 PM

Everyone who doesn't like Chapelle tacitly supports bullying people to death, got it.

yawn...

Are most people even aware of his friend? I imagine him bringing it up is the first time most people are hearing about it and given the circumstances he's not exactly a reliable source. Besides, how do you suggest we self-police social media? We can't even police comedians.

jwb 10-14-2021 01:31 PM

I'm not suggesting you can or anything but isn't that part of the larger conversation about transphobia that they have higher rates of that sort of thing.... Obviously he might have his own motives for bringing it up and you can question that but you should also at the very least keep in mind that these online backlash campaigns are not always so harmless either

Frownland 10-14-2021 03:18 PM

Can't believe Dave killed his friend like that.
