^i agree :)
in all honesty i'm going to watch the film i suggested as it may make my list for best of 2014....so the sooner the better :) and i can watch Avengers any day of the week :) |
I've made my selection for when it comes around to me.
Come and See, a russian film about nazi occupation of parts of russia durring ww2 Be warned: this movie is insane, but imo few soviet films are better (maybe the odd Tarkovsky film) I still haven't gotten a chance to see the fountain, but I'll get to it ASAP. |
^Sounds great, I'ven't seen that one yet.
I didn't know we were doing submissions yet. I'll PM you in the near future James. |
Count me out. It's something I'd love to do, but with the Pysch AC to run, school, and other responsibilites, I just don't have the time. Maybe at some point down the road. Best of luck, though.
|
Okay, see ya around.
|
Okay I'm gonna have to search for a good movie because while I love movies I don't exactly have a huge knowledge of "important" movies so I'll keep searching.
So far here's what i have for my pick when it comes up - 12 Angry Men - Schindler's List - The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo |
Who cares if it's important? Pick a film you like and, if you're that kind of person, one that people will respond well to.

What are "those kinds of movies"?
I love a good screwball comedy. The point here is to watch things that we normally wouldn't have watched. I'm down for monty python every bit as much as I'm down for Stanley Kubrick. |
There are no restrictions for which film you pick. Hell, if everyone picked downer Oscar worthy type films a comedy might be a nice change of pace. The only thing that should factor into your decision is if it's a good film.
Don't let that keep you from nominating The Room, either. |
I'm probably gonna pick a comedy myself.

I love comedies. Every film contains something to discuss.

It's been over two weeks since we made The Fountain thread. Who's next? Are we still doing this? We better still be doing this. If not, I'll just have a film club with James and Bob.
|
I've sent James my film via PM. I do apologise for not reviewing the first one though, busy period for me.
|
Absolutely disgusted that I haven't been included in this :(
|
You posted in the thread. You are now included :)

Well before I post the next film, should we go in order of commenting or order of PMs? My preference is the latter but I want to make sure we all agree.
|
I thought we had the order already?

Comment order.
|
No worries on my part James :)
I was just trying to suggest a very thought provoking film that also would spark conversation about filming style I've already watched it and would watch it again whenever I come up :) |
Okay so we'll go with Goofle's pick then, as he is next on the list. The 1973 film 'Paper Moon'.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...moon_small.jpg As P.T. Barnum put it, "There's a sucker born every minute." 'During the Great Depression, a con man finds himself saddled with a young girl who may or may not be his daughter, and the two forge an unlikely partnership.' I haven't seen this film, and I'm excited to check it out. Here's some snippets of criticism. 'A charming mixture of Hawksian comedy and Fordian lyricism.' Geoff Andrew, Timeout 'I wonder how many moviegoers will be prepared for the astonishing confidence and depth that Tatum brings to what's really the starring role.' Roger Ebert 'Has the Depression ever been this much fun?' Christopher Null, filmcritic.com |
Just watched this about two months ago but I honestly can't remember most of it. I'll be happy to rewatch this.
Also, James, you're in charge of letting me know when it's my turn to pick a film because I'm very confused on the "order" now. |

Okay, nevermind.
|
So, when is the thread going up and when is the time frame to see and discuss the film?
I'll be honest guys, this is not organized well at all. |

I am really unorganised in life in general, but I'm trying to fix that aspect of myself. Shall we say the next film will go up on the 26th? |
Machine chose the next film. And it's High Fidelity!
https://coolpapaesreviews.files.word...h-fidelity.jpg We have until the 17th to watch and discuss it. Which should be achievable, because as music lovers, most of us have probably already seen it! |
I WILL DISCUSS THIS FILM. Promise.
|
x2
EDIT: MY ABS ARE BETTER THEN YOUR ABS....... |
None can compare to Babs' Abs!
Edit: Uh, I mean Cindy Wilson's abs! |
We making a thread for this?
|
Okay. Last one was slightly better than previous, but I'm worried that was just because it's a light hearted film that didn;t require proper analysis. This one should show that. Please try and contribute this time, guys. The fact this hasn't been too successful is probably why I haven't been sticking to deadlines. I'm losing interest. So many of you are knowledgeable about film, and expressed interest in the idea. This pick (from Frownland!) is an interesting choice (it's Frownland after all!). A film I know nothing about, but with a plot summary that instantly piques my interest.
'A tone-deaf cop works to track down a group of guerilla percussionists whose anarchic public performances are terrorizing the city.' http://ext.pimg.tw/lovearching/13093...87226172e5.jpg Sound of Noise (2010) Directors: Ola Simonsson, Johannes Stjärne Nilsson Stars: Sanna Persson, Magnus Börjeson, Johannes Björk |
I haven't seen this. I've been meaning to. Expect a full review.
|
I'll write a full review after another viewing. Love this film.
|
I'm cutting down the participation list. Half of these people just aren't taking part, and it's unfair on us that are to make us wait to choose more films. The new list will consist of everyone that posts in the discussion thread for this film. Others can be added later if they aren't around much at the moment.
