They're great because they're ironically hilarious and/or charming despite/because of their idiosyncratic faults.

While simultaneously inflating the egos of viewers with directorial aspirations of their own.

Admittedly, I aspire to one day make a film as spectacular as Space Mutiny.

"Ironically hilarious" might make some sense, but (a) that would tend to just be a statement about mistaken preconceptions, and (b) it wouldn't map to "so bad it's good" any better than "cauliflower" or any arbitrary word would, and "great fault" doesn't make any more sense than "so bad it's good."

ERROR Contradictory term does not compute.

Dude, haven't you seen Bill & Ted's awesome adventure or Short Circuit or even Inception?

Not sure why you're asking about these particular films, but yeah, I love the Bill & Ted films.

or Short Circuit
Pretty sure I saw that, but in 1986 or close to it, and I don't recall anything about it.

Inception just got a big "meh" from me.

There you go, wouldn't you say their films had a so bad it was good quality to them?

If anything, at least we can agree on this.

No, not at all. I'd say that "so bad it's good" doesn't make sense. ;-)

It's not that I haven't thought about this before. I'm trying to encourage other people to think about it a bit more in-depth.

Insofar as I love those films, they're good films. That's all that "good" really refers to anyway--an (aesthetic) attraction to something, pleasure in it being the way it is, etc.
