Windows 10
I woke up this morning to find that I have a free upgrade to Windows 10 upon it's release. I'm interested to hear people's thoughts on this upcoming update, and if people are looking forward to it / not looking forward to it.

Hah, joke's on YOU, Microsoft! I don't have any hard drive space!

I wouldn't mind just going back to DOS. I liked it better when only geeks used computers, now they've done made the GUI all housewife ready and stuff. I'm old and hate change.
If you have a junk PC that meets requirements, you can preview it now: Download Windows 10 Insider Preview ISO - Microsoft Windows |
I've heard a lot of good promises of what DirectX 12 will do for gaming, but I'm a little hesitant to upgrade right away. I know there's a year to do it, but what happens after that year? Also it comes with Candy Crush preinstalled, and that's even worse than IE.
is the only reason they decided to skip 9 to distance the new os from windows 8 as much as possible or what?
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that no one on Earth is looking forward to any new Microsoft operating systems.
I'm staying with Windows 7. By the time they stop support on it I'll have enough money to buy a Mac.
I still use 7, I hate 8. Don't know shit about 10. I'd still be using XP/98 if it was viable.
Signed up and got my email. My laptop is nearly four years old though, so I dunno if it'd be better to just stick with 7.
I use Windows 8 for coursework and I can't get used to it. I'll probably still download 10 though, then come on here asking how to go back to 7 tbh. |
Not a fan of eight, but I'll wait a bit before I go to ten.
Can't wait for 10, but I'll be using a test computer at work to upgrade from 7Pro just to feel it out. I'm not worried about getting used to a new UI and different features, so that part is more about testing for my users and our software at work than my own personal stuff.
My biggest personal computer concern is whether there will be issues running Sonar at home on 10. Sonar is weird enough on its native OS... Might spin up a VM at work and install Sonar just to test before committing. I definitely want to Windows 10 though. |
I still haven't gotten my email notification thing :(

Anybody tried it yet? Thoughts? Not sure if I'll end up doing it because I honestly don't have much of a problem with 8.

and i haven't read much about 10 but based on the reception of 8/8.1, i'm guessing this is sorta like when people didn't like vista so they modified it and repackaged it as 7... long story short i'm guessing your 4 year old comp would handle 10 just fine. but as for switching back if you don't like it, you could just image your HD with 7 on it before you make the switch. download symantec ghost... can't remember how i got it, you might need to torrent it. or their website might offer a free version that would work for what you need it for. |
I heard this is going to be the last version of Windows as we know it. Apparently the plan for the future after Windows 10 is that Microsoft wants to move to a subscription based service for their Windows OS.

I'm going to wait a few months before downloading it, because I'm in the market for a new computer and I also hope they'll have ironed out some glitches by that time. We have a year to claim the download.

Why is it called Windows 10 and not Windows 9? | ExtremeTech |
my husband upgraded our 4-year-old home pc to windows 10 TP version, ah... not so good! maybe we should change a more powerful one...
^its not available yet. At least not for me.
Got the little "Windows 10 soon" notification when I got home today. I'm just about sick of 8 and accidentally finding myself back at the useless Start Screen every time my fingers slip on the keyboard, could use a change up. I'll be buying a gaming computer in October or November anyway for Fallout 4, if it'll make that a more enjoyable experience I'll gladly accept it.
Still fucking waiting on mine...
Says the 29th for me.

I'm honestly at a loss as to why I haven't been able to reserve my copy, my copy of Windows 7 is genuine and I've kept everything up to date. I mean I would probably still want to wait a month or so and let everyone else be a guinea pig, but to not even be asked...
Nope.
I even paid 5 bucks to give my 8 the appearance of superior predecessors. |
Oh you mean windows '98.^
Still waiting. Been 54 minutes now!
Im coming gawd!
Keep your filthy True Detective spoilers away from me.
Did he not need to get it together tho....I mean c'mon.
Excited for tomorrow. My PC is ready to become a Windows 10 PC, and I am ready to bathe in it's glory.
