Fave Movie Theater Experience?

Group wise? The Hangover after it'd just come out. The place was packed and the laughter was loud and explosive. Even walking out after the flick was over, lots of people were still laughing while remembering scenes.

Singular? The Dark Knight. Only movie I've paid 3 times to see in a theater.

Back in 2008 I was off work for a couple of months with a fractured foot and a buddy of mine invited me to some screenings/ discussions of movies. I think I ended up watching The City of Lost Children, The Haunting (1963 version), Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, and Dead Man's Shoes. They were the best experiences because there was a discussion about all the movies at the end of each showing, but more importantly no teenagers, cunts texting/ talking, people talking to the movie, crying children, and all the other annoyances that drag down the movie-going experience for me.

Saw The Wolf of Wall Street on Christmas Day in a VIP theater. Every seat is a leather recliner with fold out tables, waitresses walk the isles before the movie, you can order full entrees, milkshakes, and beer / mixed drinks. The sound system and screen are superior to other theaters. Just about everything other theaters fall short on VIP theaters make up for. Perfect atmosphere for that movie, feeling like an overindulgent scumbag during a movie about overindulgent scumbags, and for a 3 hour movie you better have a soft recliner.

We never would have payed $20 for a movie ticket otherwise but we drove out of town to this theater not knowing it was the only option, and for that specific movie it seemed only right to go ahead and do it. It was definitely worth it.

I don't go to the theatres too often, but I have a definite favourite. In high school, I saw Fritz Lang's Metropolis in the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles with a live band doing the music. It was so ****ing awesome, plus I had never seen the movie before then and it's still one of my favourites to this day. We had a chance to see The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in the same format, but we had to head back since my parents had work and couldn't stay out till 3 AM watching old movies. Pansies.

I went to every midnight release of the Harry Potter movies. Dressed up for each, played cards in line (for hoooours), made friends with everyone around me, got chills and cried at the opening credits each time.

when I was in junior high me and a buddy heard about Disturbia with Shia Labeouf in it. we basically only knew him from even stevens so we were like wtf is he doing in this "horror" movie. so we hyped it up huge and when it came out we had almost everyone in our grade show up for the premiere. fun times were had by all.

still friends with a lot of those peeps so weve gotten together to watch it numerous times since, most recently earlier this year. its become a sort of insider joke that its the best movie of all time. except its not a joke.

I saw the first Avengers movie in a theater that had D-Box seats. The seats move and vibrate in sync with the movie. The whole last 45 minutes of the movie was like being on a roller coaster. It was incredible!

I saw the Reese Witherspoon/Mark Wahlberg movie Fear on a double date (I had suggested Fargo but was outvoted) and it turned out to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen in the theater. The good news is that it was so bad it was funny and everyone in the theater felt that way so we all had a hilarious time laughing at it. I'll never forget there was one guy down in front laughing so hard that he was kicking the seat in front of him.

When I was a kid I went with my dad to see some terrible German comedy. It was truly awful and we were the only people in the cinema. After it was over we somehow took the wrong exit and than after a couple of flights of stairs were standing in front of an emergency door. We couldn't go back because the door through which we came had no handle on our side. So we opened the emergency door to see a whole lot of people staring at us with bewilderment. The door through whitch we came out was a part of a shop window on hinges on the outside.

3 memories come to mind

1. When i was a wee lad my aunt took me to see Con air back when theaters here were just starting to add surround sound. i f*ckin loved it. it was such an adrenaline punch i was a little disoriented when we left the theater.

2. i saw an afternoon matinee of H20 :Halloween 20 yrs later in a theater full of school kids ditching class, we were yelling sh*t through out the whole movie and at the end scene just before Jamie lee kills off Michael we all yelled "CHOP HIS HEAD!"

3. I saw Watchmen with my ex and between the blue dick and the awkward sex scene we had a good laugh on the ride back home.
