For anybody who is a fan of Pixaresque animation films that feature adult themes around plots that are more-or-less child-friendly...

Allow me to introduce you to Le Petit Prince.

The Little Prince (2015) - IMDb

hands down one of the best animations I have seen! It is based on some World War II era book by a French Author that is apparently quite famous as it has pervaded pop culture after all this time (I remember seeing an obscure reference in Futurama when the professor and hermes' kids get a paper route).

Anyhow, the animation is top notch but not Pixar but the story, and I've never read the book so Iunno how faithful it is to the original, is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

This film isn't due for release in the states until next year but was featured at this year's Cannes film festival so it's available on torrent sites and I think it is must-see. 20 minutes into the film, I was on Amazon looking to purchase and that's when I discovered it wasn't even released in the U.S. yet because there's no blu ray for purchase.

The li'l girl in the film is like a tiny adult and she's just adorable as you watch her discover her inner child on-screen as the plot unfolds. It features the voice talents of Jeff Bridges, who actually is perfect for his role, Rachel McAdams, and Paul Rudd...obviously for the American casting but there are different voice casts for the original, French film.

I think this is better than any animated Disney film but that might be because it has a plot that's a bit more intelligent than toys coming to life and having to rescue themselves before their owner moves to a new house.

While it's down to earth it's simultaneously fantastic in the exploration of the imagination and it can be quite emotionally-provocative as it tackles some of the morbid details of life as we know it...such as coming to understand mortality and explaining that to a child.
