The show has writers. I also wonder a lot if people do the extra crazy shit if they're doing it because of the cops or if it's because they're on COPS and want to get on tv. That's real time composition. Quite sure they're all legit people and not necessarily actors though.

Some of the early seasons were clearly 100% reality because so many of them had 10 minutes of bs filler with weak traffic stops and interactions with the public that don't even lead to anything. I think that's changed, though.

did you read the article i posted?

Quote:

The COPS crew doesn't just show up at a random police precinct; they only film on location when they're invited by either a city's mayor, police chief or other official. Upon receiving such an invite, the producers of the show meet with the local law enforcement officials and then ride on patrol for several different shifts to see if the area meets the "production needs" of the show. (Translation: there must be some sort of criminal action worth filming. There have been several occasions when the crew spent three or four days riding with the local constables only to find that the biggest crimes in town were parking infractions.) Once an area is deemed suitable for filming, all the proper contracts are signed, and a two-man COPS crew rides in each police car. In one-person cars, the camera operator rides shotgun while the sound mixer sits in the back seat. In two-officer cars, both crew members sit in the back. They both wear ballistic resistant vests while on the job. Surprisingly, the only major injuries suffered by COPS crew members in 20 years of filming have been slipping and falling while running through back yards in the dark, and being hit by flying objects when filming an angry crowd.

they obviously pick more interesting footage for the show. that's not the same thing as being staged.

Writers for the show isn't vague, it means that at least some of it is scripted. What I described with the real time composition joke (should've added a smiley for TH, my bad) was that the criminals aren't necessarily genuine in a lot of cases from what I see.

I never really trusted the cops before, why would I want to start now? I'm also weary of trusting executives trying to keep the show as popular as it is by keeping it interesting.

It's staged, just like the moon landing.

I'd rather watch Chrisley Knows Best than Cops.

@ frown lol you just refuse to admit whenever you're wrong about something

implying that its somehow scripted cause they have 'writers' is pretty ridiculous considering that you also said it's probably all real people and not actors... so what does somebody show up to the scene of the crime ahead of time and read the criminals the script? or what. ****ing frownland...

Frownland 08-26-2015 10:37 PM

I'm a little fishy about the criminals not ever looking at the camera. You haven't proved me wrong at all mate, you've simply misrepresented my smaller points and called them ridiculous. There's a name for that.

Staaaaaaaaaged.

John Wilkes Booth 08-26-2015 10:47 PM

i didn't prove you wrong... it's not my job to prove you wrong. i was just mocking you. and you didn't prove it's staged.... just threw a bunch of vague bull**** out there

anyway this thread is about the quality of the show, not your fake skeptic penn & teller wannabe bs

Frownland 08-26-2015 11:01 PM

Writers...write scripts. Surprising innit.

"I've been on the force for 15 years and 2 and a half months. It's an invigorating experience, knowing that I can help the community. Cops are great and you I don't understand why anyone would think we don't tell the truth. Hey look, a convenient and seedy looking dude, let's go check it out."

Every. Damn. Time. (mostly)

John Wilkes Booth 08-26-2015 11:17 PM

yawn

Frownland 08-26-2015 11:19 PM

Fwiw I think their writing is pretty awesome once the action hits.
