In his defence, I would probably be hyped for a new 50 Shades of Grey movie too if all I knew about the story was what I had heard from 40 y/o soccer moms.

No way!
People make this error all the time then they are disappointed when it doesn't live up to the actual book or the book references. People need to start separating the two and realizing that they are two different mediums. Adaptions aren't going to be perfectly like its source material.

It is the main reason I refuse to read Game of Thrones. I am waiting til the TV version is finished then I will read it.

You are overthinking the **** out of this. Just be rest assured that I am hyped for it.

I watch lifetime movies okay so sue me. This new one looks like a lifetime movie. There is some stalker **** going on and things from his past are popping up. It looks like a real nice thriller.

lmao, except the part where a movie will do terrible in box office more due to the fact that the movie did not relate to the source material at all. Critics hate it when a movie isn't like the books, and rightfully so. If you're going to direct a movie based on a book, at least respect the author enough to use the proper material.

This is exactly why I wait and see the movie before I read the book.

So? There are plain bad adaptations but there are also great ones that deviate from the source material to adapt itself better into a film/show. Example: The Shining.

Well yes, when the movie is described as being "loosely-based" sure. That's not what I was referring to though, even though I agree with you.

Don't blame movies on how they're marketed. That's outside of most creators' control.

I mostly don't, I was just using a critics opinion to counter-argument.

Not to mention grand adaptations of things that just aren't good. Jaws, for example. I've only heard bad things about the book, but the movie was fantastic. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did.

It's still so weird to know that the novel originated from a Twilight fanfic.

As a bookstore employee, I can professionally say that all of E.L. James's books suck dick.
