Rome Total War, bitch. I bought Empire Total War a while ago and never ended up playing it. I'm just gonna say that I really need to change that. Steam is a bottomless ****ing pit.

Games are different to me. I don't get satisfaction out of going through the same story multiple times. If you read my previous post you would have seen the three games that I did mention but I don't do that anymore.

You can't handle me having a different opinion than yourself. Deal with it.

I agree with this mostly.. Same for books, one and done, but movies and music are different. I have little to no interest in replaying the same story unless you have some ability to change the gameplay significantly, and since I generally give no ****s about the story, graphics, or OST, I want really good gameplay mechanics.

I have maybe.. 10-20 steam games? Only because I know I'll buy **** and never play it so I control my urges, even when games are like 2 dollars.

I'm weak. There are so many 2 dollar games on sale so what the **** is I supposed to do?

Wait, Minecraft actually has a story now... I'll grandfather that in on my list. I've been playing that since Beta 1.2_01. My friend had a server many moons ago. I'd spend months working on that server world.

I hope you kept an eye out for pedos.

It was a private server. This was like 6 years ago back when Minecraft was still a slightly obscure, poorly optimized indie game only available on PC for $15. It spread primarily by word of mouth.

I don't play a lot of different games. I tend to stick with a couple games for a very long time... so here's my list:

Ultima Online - ~10 years
WoW - ~3 years
Hearthstone - ~4 years
Minecraft - ~5 years
LoL - ~6 years

I've always enjoyed neverending progression and collecting wealth in video games which makes MMORPGs with a solid end/late game my genre of choice. I don't get much enjoyment from games with an end or themepark style anymore. WoW is on the list just because it was enjoyable early on for me, but that pleasure has since died off (this is the first expansion I haven't even bothered to get). MOBAs are also fun if you feel like playing something on a whim that takes little to no investment to have fun and still be competitive.

I guess some titles I enjoy that are more fitting for the threads theme include:

-Mike Tysons Punch Out - Idk if it's just the nostalgia factor, or the mastering of each opponent that makes this game a pleasure to go back to.. Every month or three, I'll give it ago until one loss to see if I still got it. I never make it to tyson anymore, but I usually get to Soda.

-Final Fantasy Tactics - I love the flexibility of character paths that give me the option to play different strategies every playthrough. Hands down my favorite console RPG since I purchased it new. I've heard there are better games with similar playstyles, but I've never tried them.

-A whole bunch of civilization-esque grand strategy games such as Stellaris, Europa Universallis, etc, that provide unique playthroughs as well as survival games like Don't Starve and Oxygen Not Included.

i've only beaten ff tactics once, but that's a fun game to revisit from time to time

Any game with cut scenes I'm def not playing what is that ****

use the advantages of the medium don't be a subpar movie

This is what I always felt. Games sure do focus a lot on story these days, but it's mostly really horrible and tedious stuff. I can't get into it. The quality divide in storytelling between good movies and supposedly good game stories is ridiculously wide. Game stories make me feel like I'm reading horrible fanfics written by people with autism and a weird obsession with exposition.

If this burnout ends and I'm still playing games in 10 years, it will probably be nothing but arcade games and similarly trimmed/focused games. I like games to be sharply different from the movie medium.

If you're tired of horrible writing and as a result, horrible cutscenes.. try the Witcher 3. There is a reason this game got the most GOTY awards in history.. well, actually there are many reasons, but writing is one of its biggest strengths.

As for the topic: does World of Warship count ? I ask, because it's a game you can't play NOT repeatedly, to a large extent. There is no story, there are no plot twist, hell - there isn't even any general goal. Just a series of random battles, some simple pve scenarios (they're just introducing this).. same **** every day. Spawn, sail around some islands, shoot enemy ships etc. Over and over. And it's super fun.
