[BONUS POLL] MB Video Game Classics: Super Mario 64
 

I've been digging Super Mario 64 music lately and it's really made me want to go back and play one of the best games on the N64. So I figured since this isn't even on the list, I'll add it as a bonus poll again. I know, bonus polls feel less rare now but this one is an exception.

One of the best experience I ever had on the N64. 5/5. Easily.

The only flaw was the controls using the N64 controller. I think all N64 games felt a bit wonky especially with the camera.

Definitely. I've been contemplating getting it on the Wii U store because then I could play it wth my pro controller.

I remember getting Wind Waker for Wii U and never playing it. Same with Doom for Xbox 1. I hardly play games anymore. Except when with my friend.

My friend had a system and we'd play it often. It was cool. I played it in the lobby of a dentist's office or something as a kid too. 10/10 because it blew my mind when I played it originally.

The game itself was truly ahead of its time. The graphics were some of the best on the system and even though it does look a bit dated these days, it's still a classic.

I'm actually going 4 on this one because some things really annoy me like the camera and the inconsistent quality of the level design. Also re-using the same Bowser fight multiple times, something that annoys me in most Mario games, is kind of lame. For its place in history its probably a 5 but trying to be objective here I think there are a few things that drop it down that 1 point. Still really enjoy it though. Mario Odyssey is better

It doesn't effect the end result so I don't mind it. It is stupid, but it'd be different if the voting effected anything and it's usually the lesser of total votes in the threads. I figured it'd also go without saying but it's no biggie.

But yes, typically when you vote in here, I assume you've played the game. Otherwise you're just voting to be a dick.

I liked face fucking the Mario head on the title screen. The rest was awesome, too. 10/10

This is probably the only game I can flex on. Soooo many hours spent meticulously getting every single star... for what? Yoshi? I would have preferred to be gifted with a Mario/Peach love sequence but I guess unlimited lives will do.

Gah, that sound elicits so many memories. I blame some of my unconscious anxieties on the fear of drowning in that game when I was younger.

Solo Peach sounds less like midget porn. Midget porn is really only good as a meme.

I love the bowser level music. It pumps you up before the fight. Especially the 3rd one. What a way to end a game with that boss fight.

Do you remember the final boss fight of Yoshi's Island?

Bowser was ****ing terrifying.

It was the same damn fight again though. Very underwhelming ending to the game. Compare that to the final boss fight of Banjo-Kazooie for example (a game that was on the same system so no excuses, Nintendo), which was an incredible culmination of all the skills you'd learned and felt epic, unique, and difficult. One of the most satisfying victories in all of gaming when I finally took her down.

I don't disagree. But playing it when I was young I wouldn't have even thought of that. I honestly haven't played this game in years. I just got it on Virtual Console so I may try to beat it this weekend.

I couldn't stand the big/little island. Probably my least favorite level next to the upstairs snowland whatever it was. All the snow levels blew imo. **** the penguins

The snow levels were definitely tough in some cases. I think my favorite level would have to be the clock one. That and Rainbow Road are awesome.

The clock was definitely one of the better designed levels. It was always fun experimenting with the clock hands. The Watertown was kinda cool in that respect too.

Yep. I always thought it was cool that it had different variants. I love the level you get the metal cap as well because you get to hear the badass underground music.

Hell yeah. It's such a simple concept but it works in the Mario context.

Anyone else wanna talk about just the sheer rdiculousness that is SM64 speedrunners? These guys manage to 100% the game in just a few hours. Some of them are incredible to watch too.

Super Mario World and Paper Mario or gtfo.

Even tho the thread is specifically SM64 but whatev. Do what you want.
